I need help buying a GOOD DDR pad!
« on: January 21, 2007, 08:10:36 pm »
So I am dance pad less...

But I might get to buy a new one for my 17th birthday in a month, so I was wondering which one is the best of the best, I dont wanna buy a pad again just to have it die in a few months (those stupid plastic ones ><)

Price Range is $100 absolute max. So far I like the thick ones (Saw one at Best Buy for $70), but which one of those would be best, Ive seen alot off those kinds and my friend got one like that which was a cheap ripp off cause it can barley scense where your feet are.

I have a friend who tacked their plastic ddr pad onto a block of wood ... it looks really nice. Maybe consider that if you know someone who's into woodworking. ^w^ Hope that helped!

To reply for Superjaz, they didn't seem to have any of the good pads at Fry's. She was nearly in tears when she say they didn't have the demo display up anymore. I'm sure they'll get more in at some point, or they're stashed away somewhere, we'll try to keep you informed.

The repair station would be willing to look at mutable nonworking ddr pads that have been given up on but won’t promise or guaranty anything.  At worse several of the same brand/type could be made into one that works.  Of course in exchange the winner gets to walk around the con in the reserve anime repair girl uniform and the pink leather tool belt and the giant foam wrench looking for broken cosplays

Edit the repair station just googled "repair ddr pad" and might think about a panel

If you want a damned good pad with a little bit of work www.ddrfreak.com in their forums has a step by step guide of how to turn a home pad into a much more solid arcade looking one.

Or there's always the cobalt flux/red octane pads. They're spendy, but worth it if you're really into ddr. Personally I like red octane's better because they're a little bigger and reminisce of arcade pads but tend to need a tune up every couple of years. cobalt flux's are more reliable but I know a lot of people that have hurt themselves on the slick surface and slightly smaller than arcade pad. Either will run you about $300 >.< but well worth it if you play tons.

The one I fell in love with was way back during one LANIME. It was a soft one but instead of a flat surface, each of the arrows kinda popped out if pad, it was grey. They use to sell it at GameStop for $100 on Lancasater in Salem Oregon but stopped after a while.
