i need some pro advice

I want to try and cosplay this year but dont know where to start. I want to either cosplay as spike spiegel or shino aburame costume 2.

I'm wondering if 270$ is to much for a spike costume, or if anyone knows some places to hunt down the clothes needed for the costume.

Same question for the shino costume. Is 125$ to much? or know some good places to hunt down clothes.

It seems like you could find pretty much everything at Goodwill and other used / resale places. *IF* you have the time to hunt and a way to get around to multiple different shops. That's a lot of times what it comes down to - if you don't have the time to shop around or the skill to build it yourself is when you need to determine if you want to buy pre-made or commission someone to do it for you. There might be someone on the forum who will make it for less than what you posted above.

If you do end up shopping around, bring a color copy of the costume. It will help you determine if the shirt is the right shade of yellow, if the collar points the way you want it to etc. And don't be afraid to try a little bit of craftwork (putting wire or something in the collar to make it stand up) - and be sure the shoes are comfortable!

thx for the advice, but theres very few place to shop for clothes in my town. if anyone knows a good site can commision me a costume cheaper than above please message me.

good lord 200something is way to much for a spike costume.  would that be including like shoes and wig and actual jacket (cause although alot of people will wear a blazer for spike is not really in the current style its kinda spacey-fied). then MAYBE.  but if your looking just to do something passable then i would indeed go goodwilling.  i would normally be able to commission that for less than the price you found, unfortunately im all booked for kumori already.

if there arent places in your hometown to look for clothes try on ebay or something.

but i cant keep myself from mentioning, and i mean no disrespect, that those two characters are going to be in high supply at any con.  so if you care about showing up in the same clothes as other people id think about searching your nerd-dom for some other ideas.  i dont know i feel weird about showing up in the same costume as a bunch of other people.  like wearing the same dress as someone else to prom or some other fancy party.  but thats just one of my own obsesive things.  if youre cool with it go for it.

270$ seemed pretty pricy for me to, but the costume looks just like the real suit. as for the costume being common at conventions i was just trying to find a character that had curlyish hair because i have really curly hair. if someone knows a more obscure or a more rare cosplay character that can be pulled off with my curly hair im open to suggestions.

270 would be ok if the fabric was really really nice.  cause if you think about it a real nice suit would cost something like that.  but if it was made out of like... i dunno cotton and not wool suiting or something its a total scam.
