Any comments about art room?
« on: September 10, 2004, 03:57:41 pm »
I've read all the threads so far, and I have not seen anyone making any comments about the art. So I just wanted to start a thread that would concentrate on the artist's side. I think we had nice selection of artists this year, but things were rushed and I think many people missed out on this event. Considering some people need months to prepare some drawings *ie. me for laziness* I think it would be good to put down some requirement and step by step process on how to show case one's art, since I believe there are many first-timers out there. Even things on which printers to use, dpi specification, size, would be good to know.
I was also confused about where the art room because there was no sign to point out the room, so that would be helpful next year.

Also I would like to note more and more people are starting to create "Doujinshi", or their own manga, and this section is something that is often overlooked in conventions. It would be nice to have people make and submit their graphic novels...

I am also curious about what people thought about the pitctures they saw in the art room.

In the dealers room, some con guys had a table where anyone could draw a picture and take back home pictures where other artists have drawn. I thought that was a great idea! Sharing art work is something I've always missed since all my artistic friends moved away.... :(
So can we do something akin to this next year?

I've also noticed large number of Deviants at the con, and it would be cool to make list of their names and keep in contact with them. :D

I think that's it for my brain storm for now, I hope I did not write too offensively(sp) but I need to get some rest now. All in all, I had a great time and I am really looking forward to next years con!

I was disappointed that I wasn't told about how I could have sold some of my stuff, actually.  I was told that you could NOT sell fanart due to copyright infringement, etc. but pretty much everything WAS fanart and I could have been rakin' it in!

ah, well.  Now I know, ne?

The art room was lovely-- I just wish that there would be some better communication...I wanted to display some of my artwork, one person contacted me, but then nothing more was said.  >_<

Other than that, I thought it was a great thing.  I think that next year, the room should be a bit bigger.  I'm sure I'm not the only one inspired to do artwork for next year.

As far as basic print knowledge, I can give a little rundown, but I don't know what is common and what is ubergeekish....So here goes.

1) Please, PLEASE print your pictures in 300dpi.  72 looks great on the web, but it sucks in print.

2) If you're doing your work in Photoshop, CYMK mode is best....Providing you're doing a work in color.  Mainly because if you decide you * looooove * this print and want to get loads made, you can ship it to a commercial printer, and have them be able to read the image and print it.  Not neccisary, but it'll certainly save you some time in the long run if you just work in CYMK (Cyan, Yellow, Magenta and Key, a.k.a. Black).  ^_^

I'm no expert, but I'm working on it, and I'm sure that some other people who use this board are better read than I.

I'd like to see another section for Doujinshi.  ^_^  Its super hard to do often-times, and the peoples deserve some kudos for their work.  ^__^

I'm planning on trying to bring some fan-cels next year.....

Is this kosher?

I agree Oubeji-- the Art exchange thing was sooo neat.  ^_^  I hope they set aside a table for this next year as well.  What a great idea, and it made a nice little pitstop in the dealers' room.  ^_^
