Mailed Badges
« on: May 16, 2007, 01:47:04 pm »
I just got my badge and with it came a note about showing it and ID at check in for a lanyard.  I was thinking because there is nothing attached to it, I was going to super glue a hard drive magnet to the back.   Will you not be let in if you chose not to wear the lanyard?

Also, what is the purpose of mailing out badges if you have to check in anyway?  (Fears the long line of hours of death waiting) :?

The lanyards will have the plastic holders hanging off of them so badge will just be placed in the holder.

If you *choose* to not wear your lanyard, you must at the very least have it on your person.  However, if you wish to not be stopped every five feet by people asking to see your lanyard to make sure you've registered, I'd greatly suggest just having it around your neck.

We apologize if this disrupts your cosplay in any way.

The check in will consist of us looking at your badge and checking it against your id, handing you a lanyard and sending you on your merry way.  This is an extremely easy process compared to finding you on a list and finding your badge on a stack of badges.  Believe me, pre-reg line WILL NOT be the nightmare that it was last year.  It'll go plenty faster.

Thanks totemo_oishii!!  I'm sure all involved are very happy for the positive feedback!

leashy, the next official one will be in August.  End of last tier is August 10th, so we'll be sending those out the door as soon as possible past that date to make sure everyone gets their badges before con.

Runa, God I wish I knew.  We most likely won't have them officially until the July staff meeting.  Our designer is working really hard on it.  I promise, as soon as we're ready to start printing, we will be contacting all of you staffers.

I almost screamed when I got mine yesterday.  xD
They're so cute!

& Will the lanyards have the option of being clip-ons again?  Last year I used one with a clip and I liked it better 'cause I'm picky like that.

It's a possibility.  We have been talking about having that option.  However, I would want to make sure that the clip on versions are particular enough that we could tell just by looking at them that someone didn't just bring their old clip from a previous year to avoid the line.  And I'm not sure exactly how special you can make a clip on.  With a neck lanyard, the rope itself is obvious enough to tell a difference.

If you want to clip your badge on I highly suggest that you carry your lanyard visibly at all times. I know that a lot of you don't want your "pictures" ruined but trust me, the internet doesn't mind seeing your badge, they know you were at a convention.

The best "nonstandard" way is to tie the lanyard around your wrist. Like, with a real not so you're not holding it all the time. Easy to hold up for yojimbo and easy to wrap up and hide with a good pose when people want pictures.

You want a yojimbo to be able to see it from 20 or 30 feet so nobody has to worry about hassle.

Please do not put it in your pocket or purse or *gasp* hotel room.

And most important... between now and the convention -
do not lose your badge
Losing badge is very very baaaaad....

Oh and one advantage of the ID checking thing when you get your badge, especially for those of you who hit a threshold age, such as 21 or at least old enough to switch from a kid badge to adult badge, is it allows us to verify that you really have reached that age by the convention time.  :D

More reasons for checking badges: you can't get the cool swag bag unless you check in; we want to be certain that the badge YOU paid for is in YOUR hands (what if someone stole your mail, got your badge, and is attempting to attend the convention free???); we need to verify how many pre-registered people actually attend the convention (yeah, all intend to go to the convention when they purchase a membership, but life happens and some can't make it)

My name's misspelled on mine. It laps over onto the white part of the background, but I'm sure that "Gabbiani" was somehow spelled with an a on the end.

HELP!
« Reply #23 on: June 29, 2007, 10:30:12 pm »
I paid for my badge at Sakuracon but, on the application, I asked for it to be held on to till the con instead of it being mailed to me, but it ended up in my mailbox anyways. I asked for it to be held because I have a tendency to lose things, and sure enough, I already lost it. how would you call this situation.
