Being as I was on staff, most of my suggestions are really just thoughts, since I already know most of the reasons why things were done the way they were done.
That said, one of my first suggestions for next year would be a recycling service. I brought it up at a meeting months before the con, mentioning how Sakura Con has no place to recycle cans, and they assured me that this was the hotel's responsibility. It was thought that they lacked recycle bins because it is held in Washington, and Oregon recycles more than Washington.
Well, we found out for ourselves that this Marriott, at least, is about the same as the Sea-Tac Hilton. I don't know how much you folks care about recycling, but when I think of all the hundreds, even thousands of cans of pop drunk by con-goers, I believe we should do something other than throw them away.
My first response last year was to offer to put out and monitor recycle bins, but I quite obviously didn't know what I would be getting into. I think we need to work out some kind of system for this. The Marriott's trash receptacles were hard enough to find as it was, so I imagine that we should also do it for the purpose of giving people new places to throw away recyclable garbage.
