Basically you go to http://skype.com/ and download the proper necessities. You create a free user and can instantly talk to anyone in the world, with their name, e-mail address..........

Does it produce transcripts of conversations automatically?  Alternatively, how difficult is it to record the conversation (without bringing in whatever I'm listening to/videos I'm watching at the moment)?

mmm why not just add a random forum goers IM and talk to them? lol I just draw the line when I have trillian(aim,msn,icq in one), ventrillo AND teamspeak to talk to people. I get the feeling that for each different person I meet I need to download another program to talk to them lol...

I dislike Ventrillo because, at least as of the last time I checked, there still wasn't a Linux/BSD client for it.

Teamspeak, though it looks less friendly, at least has a Linux client.

What we really need for this kind of stuff to work is an upgrade to IPv6, -every- computer having a 'real' (routeable) address, and an open framework, probably using speex or something like it for the actual codec.
