Er, anime songs for altos..?
« on: August 22, 2006, 01:44:20 pm »
Kay, so I've gotten a little itch to enter the karaoke contest this year, just for kicks. Problem is, (Maybe I'm just not watching the right anime) but it seems like almost all anime songs are sung for high-pitched-shatter-the-glass-sopranos... This leaves me at something of a disadvantage, because my voice is pretty bottom-of-the-barrel low.  Could anyone give me any suggestions for songs I might be able to do? (Prefered English, but thats only prefered.)

Any responses appreciated :)

"I am the Wind" from Castlevania Symphony of The Night.  It's a video game song but it would work.  And it's in english :)

"Dialogue Symphonie" by Moi Dix Mois. It's in japanese, but his voice is wonderfully low.

In fact, anything by Moi Dix Mois, or Malice Mizer, for that matter, would probably work.

You could try the English version of "Somewhere" from Slayers.  It is sung relatively low and doesn't go up very high either, let me know if you want to hear the MP3

Also the English version of "Get a Reason" from Slayers is also pretty low

Amano Tsukiko is a really awesome singer and she has a pretty low voice. The only problem you might run into would be that she has a really large range, so in some of the songs she hits some pretty high notes. I'd stay away from Bodaiju. Another good thing about Amano is that she sings a lot of different styles so it's almost certain that you'll find something you like. :3

"Cruel Angel Thesis" From Neon Genesis Evangelion. It's always lovely ♥ and the range is pretty good all over. :D

Amuro Namie has a good alto range, as does Myco from Changin' My Life.
I nkow this hasn't been posted to in forever, but I still thought to suggest it.

Look at it one way, once the vocals are out, you just have to adjust your octave. The music will be in the same key, but as long as you know how to adjust your voice any song can be sung lower. If you're really having trouble, look to songs sung by men. A man singing in the tenor range is easily translated over to the alto range for women. :3 That's probably the easiest way to go if you don't have any music reading/training experience.

Good Luck.
