In need of a leatherworker
« on: July 09, 2008, 01:30:21 am »
I am greatly in need of someone who has the equipment necessary to take leatherwork commissions.  I have a number of leather accessories I need for my costume, but my costumer doesn't have the right equipment for leatherwork. :(

Most of the items are basic medieval accessories.  Straps, pouches, bracers, and the like.  The biggest item would be the boots.  I could provide a pair of old shoes that fit me to use as the base for building the boots.

Here is an example of the sort of thing I would like to commission (just one person's interpretation):

I'd be happy for any recommendations.  They need not be in the Portland area; I'd be fine dealing with someone out of state.

Thanks a lot. Well, they look like a good place to get commissions, but they're backed up so much right now that it's unlikely they'd get to my commission before Kumori Con.  :-\ So I'm going to keep looking for now.

Well, those look like decent bracers to be sure, but I need to make a custom order for them to match my costume.

I have yet to try anything such as the Zelda bracer you have pictured. However I do have a myspace folder of work I have completed thus far and am currently in the process of creating the bracers and leg greaves for my Kratos cosplay.

Hey, thanks for posting your images. However, that particular URL just forwarded me directly to the MySpace front page without any explanation. I don't suppose you have any way of viewing those other than MySpace....

I'd recommend VonDan (another person on the forums), but he hasn't been on in quite a few months, so I don't know if he is available. I know he does a lot with leather-working though.

I can't do anything like embossing yet, but I'm basically at the point where I could sew together a couple pieces on my machine. All the straps and bits for Yuffie are leather, and I've put most of those together so far.

Photobucket is a-okay. :D Okay, I'll get back to you tomorrow; I have to go to bed after I post here tonight...

I'd recommend VonDan (another person on the forums), but he hasn't been on in quite a few months, so I don't know if he is available. I know he does a lot with leather-working though.

I've had stuff done by Dan before. Let's just say it would be impractical right now. For starters, I'm living in Portland now, and he's in west Eugene (which, while in the same area as my family's house, is still a 30-minute drive from them, one-way).

Also, just an FYI, awhile ago Dan had some problems which led him to not want to be involved with Kumori Con anymore. I'm sorry to have seen him disappear like that, but I thought you should know, just so you aren't left wondering.

I can't do anything like embossing yet, but I'm basically at the point where I could sew together a couple pieces on my machine. All the straps and bits for Yuffie are leather, and I've put most of those together so far.

Hmmm, unfortunately I'd need quite a bit more than that.... I understand there's a lot of equipment involved in doing the big jobs, and skill alone can't always overcome a lack of tools. Thanks for the offer, though. :)

Thanks. I hope so. ^_^

Umm, I could. I still have the Kyo stuff, not that it's terribly impressive.
