Toe-Socks and Non-sharp Katana?
« on: August 18, 2008, 09:37:25 am »
Yeahhhh... >.> I need to find a pair of toe-socks or Etabi socks for my sandles. Anybody know of a -store- that sells them? I prefer not to order online being that i could arrive too late for the con.

Also I'm riding the transit (MAX) around to get to the con with my sister. I know no weapons are allowed so how do I go about carrying my "Weapon" around? Perhaps I'm better off with a bamboo/kendo stick. XD

As for the sword, if you have it covered than it shouldn't be a problem, so making a long thin bag about 6 inches longer than your sword with ties on the end that you fold over and tie around the sword, would provide a secure covering that should be adequate for the transit people. Also once you get your sword peace bonded at the con they will secure the blade shut so it can't be drawn (don't worry you can remove this after the con) which should be fine with the transit people as well.

aaaactually, sockdreams sells some tabi socks  and definitely have a plain pair that would suit your purposes (and i think they might be cheaper than at uwajimaya)

heres a pair

and if you are anywhere in the portland area you WILL have them before the con, and if youre still nervious about it we do have a storefront in se portland on powell blvd. well heres the directions.

I bought my tabi socks at sockdreams.

As for the katana..if there is no way to secure it inside the scabbard then you can't use it, as that's the only way metal is being allowed at con. If there is, then doing what majinekochan said works perfectly fine for taking it places.

also you can find wooden katana alot of places, i know they have them on amazon.

and you can paint them to be metalic pretty easily.  the key is to get the grinding marks that are on real katana, so you have to use two different metallic shades, like "gun metal" vs silver.
