I don't know if Pieter van den Hoogenband is competing this year, and that makes me utterly depressed.

The opening ceremonies were amazing. I freaked out when the dancers started paintin a picture on the super sized scroll. It was so cool!

Have the olympics ever been hosted in the USA? I can't fathom us eve being capable of pulling something like that off. Also when are the winter olympics? The whole schedule is quite confusing to e  :D,

Yeah they had one in Utah. And the winter olympics are in 2010 in Canada (vancouver bc). They hold the olympics every two years, alternating with summer and winter. Since it's the summer 2008, the winter ones will be 2010. The last summer olmypics were in 2004 (so there's a 4 year gap for each season). Does that make sense?

It would be so cool to go to the winter Olympics. They're not even that far away! *ponders a potential "Cosplay at the Olympics!"* :D

Salt Lake (winter), Los Angeles (summer), Atlanta (summer)... that's all I can think of off the top of my head.
According to wikipedia, there's also Lake Placid, NY (winter), Squaw Valley, CA (winter), Lake Placid again (winter), and LA again (summer)

It also says the next summer Olympics will be in London, 2012

Where would one go to get tickets for the Olympics?

The schedule days for 2010 are up on their official website (I get the newsletter)

There is actually quite a complicated process for this!!

As far as I know, you have to enter a contest to be eligible to buy tickets. The winners, obviously, get to buy first. Then it's the people who entered who didn't win. Then I think it opens to the general public. I've heard they go on sale as soon as October 3rd of this year (for 2010), but I'm not quite sure about it. And I don' tknow if Canadians get the first chance to buy since they're hosting.

Like...the most expensive tickets will be for gold medal hockey games and women's figure skating!

What is with the mean-girl names? The US gymnast named "Nastia" , the tennis player named "Dementieva" - would make a great villainess name "Nastya Dementieva!" Buah-ah-aha-ha!

At work, our management teams are having a friendly competition surrounding the Olympics.

We each get four countries and every day the medals those countries win are tabulated and the team with the most medals wins either a pizza party, an ice cream social, or something else (I forget...).  And if USA gets a crazy amount of medals like 120 or something, we all get an extra break eventually.

My team is ahead in calculations right now.  I'm kinda hoping another team catches up and beats us, cause I'd rather have ice cream than pizza.  Pizza = ouch.

Phelps needs to win a lot more medals though.  Like all of them.  For stuff he's not even participating in.

I want my extra break darn it.
Take a chance 'cause you might grow

They rarely mention it on t.v.
All I know is that china has the most gold but last I checked USA had the most overall medals.

NBC actually has good coverage if you spend a few minutes figuring it out. They have pages on every single country (Go Lithuania!!) and up to the minute medal counts.

I can safely say I haven't seen a single second of the Olympics so far this year, and know virtually nothing about what's going on. The only thing I've ever made a point of watching in the Olympics is Curling, which this one doesn't have.

Really?  It shouldn't hurt your knees too badly.

Thankfully even though they go up really high, my trampoline teacher said injuries are pretty rare in such an event since the people know what to do in emergencies.  (Yes, they actually had trampoline as a class at the UO)
