I'm surprised [Vash Monologue]
« on: September 11, 2008, 06:17:28 pm »
(hope this doesn't get moved to spam)

I'm surprised no one has talked about vash's poem at all on the forums. It was so amazing. 0_0 I already have it memorized and my friend is obsessed with it.

The poem was really accurate and had a good usage of words. some of the reactions of the crowd in the background sort of annoyed me for some reason but I can't stop watching it.

what did everyone else think of it? if they've seen it that is and know who vash is. if you don't, shame.

I love his monologues. Sure, most of the references he makes are very mainstream, but he uses them cleverly. I don't know of anyone who does anime-related writing who's as creative as he is.

I was pretty impressed, actually. He did a good job, in my opinion!

He's pretty good, and yeah he is clever, for sure. I am actually really envious of him (and all spoken word poets), people worship them and forget about all those poets who write but don't read. Makes me personally feel pretty worthless, but that's a different story, heh.

On topic, yeah, the guy can spit his rhymes well. ^_^

I am incredibly happy I got to see his work this year. We didn't attend the cosplay contest, but instead wandered in towards the end, just standing in the back. When he came on I was really hopeful it'd be as awesome as last year, and in my opinion, it was. I look forward to seeing his future works. =)

I respect him....

...but how many times has he done it? I really couldn't tell much of a difference between the three of his monologues I've seen. I KNOW they're different, but...not really :/

Yeah, I think anyone could agree that's not so much a skit as it is a poetry reading about an anime character. Granted, he is cosplaying the character and the poem is first-person....that's not a skit though.

He's done 3 total but he's not allowed to do them at Kumoricon anymore. He has to do real skits now.

awesome. No more dancing skits too, right? (srsly, why won't they let me be cosplay judge??)

He really bugs a friend of mine as she says he plagarizes his material and doesn't credit sources. At least from past years.

I personally thought it was funny in 07 the first time I heard it but, at sakuracon 08 and again at k-con 08 i lost interest, hes repetitive and the whole "I wrote this thing back stage but w/e lets role with it lock the doors" just isnt funny when you've heard him say that multiple times

haha, so that pre-poem chatter was planned? That explains why it sounded so rhythmic and structured, heh.. I just assumed that was part of the performance, lol.

That's part of being a performer though.  You've gotta try and connect w/ the audience, make it seem genuine even when it's planned.

(I didn't see the performance itself, so I can't comment.)
