Gaming meeting
« on: November 20, 2008, 12:42:52 am »
I would like to set up a gaming meeting for the staff on Friday the 5th of December. Its basically going to be a meet and greet, but it also gives us a chance to get together and compile ideas for the upcoming year. Any recommendations on the time and location we should have our shin dig? ^^

As long as I'm back in hillsboro by 7:30pm no worries.
Beaverton/Portland area works well for me.
I will have the baby...so anywhere crowded not so good.
I might bring his swing so he can be entertained/not held if I can get there before the meeting as to not interupt anything or be in the way as I bring it in (its just a small motorized swing)

If you're within 20-30 minutes drive from Beaverton, I might come. Sounds fun. What kinds of gaming? The main categories I can think of are LAN games, RPGs, video games, and board/card games.  I'm most interested in the last two.

lol well the meeting is going to cover everything we utilize in the gaming room at con, both LAN and Consoles and possibly arcade gaming as well. I want us to be prepared next year and to actually know the people we are going to be working with before we get to con.  It also gives me an opportunity to find out where everyone's skill lies so I can place you in what you know best and what you enjoy doing. I would prefer to have it in Portland since I know that is where most of you are based. :) Just makes sense to have me commute instead of everyone else. lol That's why I was asking if anyone had ideas for a location since you all are more familiar with the Portland area then I am.

Backspace (511 NW 5th, Portland, OR), It's a Beautiful Pizza (3342 SE Belmont, Portland, OR), and the coffee house at Goose Hollow max stop (it's on 19th and Jefferson in West Portland) would all be good places to meet.

5th is my LAST day of term, so I may be taking a Physics final at the time.  I'll check my syllabus and let you know.

I am more up for backspace or the coffee place personally. How much space do we have at both locations? We need to make sure that Renee will have enough space for teh baby. ^^

Oooooooooooooooh, video game focused?....  I am totally there. :)  Well, as long as we focus on social gaming.

I get off work in Beaverton at 5:00 on Fridays. I'm cool with December 5th, unless a meteor hits the earth or something.

The Goose Hollow one is pretty small; it would probably be a better place to have meetings in June and July, since it has a large front porch and a nice lawn.  Backspace should be able to fit us all pretty easily, but gets pretty tight if there's an event going on, so we'd want to check in with them ahead of time.  Beautiful Pizza is usually pretty calm, quiet, and it's a big place that's been pretty welcoming towards MEW con's meetings there.

Another choice is Lloyd Center... it's where I've had Prog meetings.  Easy to get to, lots of space :)

Hrm. Did I misunderstand somewhat? I thought this might be a get-together for general staff that happens to involve recreational gaming. Is it instead supposed to be specifically for gaming staff? I don't want to be a party crasher, particularly if you're trying to get stuff done. I haven't specifically signed up for gaming staff.

I think it primarily for gaming staff or any staff really to meet the new manager, if they dont know her. And so ya'all can discuss what you want to see/do for 2009's con. If you want to share Ides or opinions im sure she and every one else would love to hear them. Its super early to get TONS done, but never too early to hang out and share ideas. I wouldnt see a prob with you going at all. Its gonna be a meeting, but a causal one. Or at least thats what she told me outside of the forums. Jenn is pretty on top of things but she dosent know many staff personaly yet. Many many changes since she ran gaming last. lol. :)

Okay, cool. Well, to tell the truth, I haven't officially signed up for a department yet, so it's not like I couldn't get involved. For 2009, most of what I'm getting involved with so far is semi-independent of departments. I've done Gaming before, but not at Kumori Con, unless you count running the DDR contest at year 1.

I'm gonna go ahead and say Lloyd center. Its easy to get to and we will have plenty of space and everyone can get what they want to eat. Its just gonna be easier this way. If we decide we want to change locations once we get there we can certainly do that. So...we are going to be meeting at the Lloyd center food court in front of the Hot dog on a Stick at 12pm on December 5th. This work for everyone?

I'd really prefer Backspace or Beautiful Pizza; I'll have to skip all my classes in order to get there on time if it's at Lloyd Center. :/

Guys I really hope you all get a chance to read this, I am going to make phone calls as well though. The gaming meeting is gonna have to be postponed until a later date or be bumped back on time. I just got a new job yesterday and the orientation is on the fifth from 8am to 2pm.  We can either make it later in the day or bump it back until later in the month? I just know Renee said that she had to be back before 7pm so we could probably make it from 4 to 6 if everyone is okay with that?

That works a little better for me. I wont have to rush in the morning. i just have to pick up my husband at 7:30 from work so 4-6 works fine.

I think later time works best. Later in month=busier mall.
