Plate Tectonics
« on: January 12, 2009, 05:59:48 pm »
ok, I'm supposed to have a report on them by tomorrow.
Yeah, I have nothing, all the books I've read are just too complicated...
Can anyone dumb them down a little for me.
I get the whole big crust lithosphere thingy, but I don't get why they move and stuff.
Help!

this is what i remember from 7th grade:

when plates collide the heavy ones go under. when two light ones (continental) they both go up and form mountains. (most of the time)
when two heavy plates (oceanic) they go down and form deep sea trenches. and plates aren't constantly moving... the move fast (earthquake) catch on eachother.... build up a lot of pressure... then earthquake again!! so on and so forth...
this is what Meg remembers! ^^
good luck! :3

all the plates are constantly moving in relation to the core, not each-other ^^

There are plate boundaries. When plates side and rub into each other it is transform boundaries. Covergent is when two plates slide into each outer. And Divergent Boundaries is when they slide apart.

That it's not THAT BAD when they shift on the San Andreas fault.

If you want -real- information you can PM/MSN me. I used to live on the faultline.  :)
