You know there one console game that i never really got the chance to conquer which is driving me crazy to this day. Final Fantasy 4. The one with the Espurs and the girl who was born of the Espurs. If anyone happens to know a place on the Internet where I could play that game I'd appreciate it. So many games I never beat life's so unfair  :'(.
You are thinking if FFIII for the SNES with Terra as the main character born of Espers...I don't know of anywhere online myself...but if you can find one of the copies of FFVI for the PS1 which is a combo pack with FFV...I believe its called FF anthology but would have to look when I'm at home...6 is the same game.

As for myself, I still own all my classic systems & still play them. A couple games that I have on my SNES that never get old for me are Mario RPG, FFIII, & an all-time favorite, Robotrek. Not sure if anyone remembers this game...a very creative RPG made by Enix(long before squaresoft & enix combined forces) about a young inventor trying to find his missing father. He fights with robots that you build, name, and program. Lots to it, I recommend anyone who likes RPG's to look this one up.

I was actually going to say something similar.  I really don't have a ton of free time; I invest a lot of the time that I do have into video games, and I don't spend a lot of time learning trivia.  One field of trivia that I make a point of knowing about though, because I'm considering entering the development field, is video gaming, particularly the history of vintage video games, because those are the ones that I enjoy the most, and the more I research them, the more I will be able to recreate those enjoyable experiences.

Galaga holds a special place in my heart.  It's one of those games that I can always come back to, because it's a constant test of my dexterity and attention.  Sure, I memorize the bonus levels, but it's not as stressful for me as Joust or Bubble Bobble have become (with Bubble Bobble, I'll often just outright quit if I die before level 30).

There's a similar old game that I used to play which I used to love the crap out of, IIRC it's called Galaxian, but I'd need to play it to be sure.  What I liked about it was that it had a destructible environment, like space invaders, but far more detailed.  Maybe I'll try to hunt down a ROM and see if I'm remembering the right name for the right game.

Just looked it up.  Galaxian was Galaga's precursor, so definitely not the game I was thinking of.  Maybe it's better I never find the game I'm thinking of though; I worry that it would lose it's magic for me if I were to play it now, after playing so many other great games.

Oh ya...if you have ever played the original Tekken game on PS1, you can unlock a Galaga opening screen that you can play before the menu...there is no time limit that forces you to play Tekken either, you can just start it up with your memory card saved data and rock Galaga for hours.

Okay another game I remember from my childhood  is one from that strange and ancient time known as the 1980's, it was called....DONKEY KONG!

Donkey Kong was fun...never got really good at that one...usually just played until I was tired of getting barrels thrown at me lol.

Are there any old school gamers out there that remember such abstract titles as Archon, which was a fantasy chess game where you actually entered a battle field to determine the victor over a square once 2 pieces met...one side was the "light" side and the other "dark" so the pieces you had were different & had different advantages...or another game, Galaxy 5000, which was an addicting fantasy racing game that could kinda be compared to Rock n' Roll Racing on SNES(also one of my favorites) in the fact that you have weapons that you upgrade as well as your ship.

Archon Cyprus, BAGS I had a copy of that game on my old Commodore 64. I actually rather loved that game, strategizing, the characters and their animations. Okay they're definitely crude by today's standards but the game was overall fun.

I miss that game...need to find another copy, mine was stolen years ago and just haven't looked for another one. One of my favorite older games though, even it it does look choppy compared to todays standards. Too bad they won't remake it with for a newer console & have more "armys" to pick from...I would buy that.

Another game I can hink of from the old school is The 7th Guest & the 11th hour. In both games your charcter is trapped in the house of an evil toymaker named Henry Stauf. In order to escape you have to solve pretty creepy puzzles and even beat Stauf in some games.

How's that for old school?

The mention of old battle racing games makes me kind of want to dig up my old copies of Megarace (1993, car-based) and Slipstream 5000 (1996 IIRC, played in vehicles that were essentially souped up fighter jets) and see if either of them will run properly on Windows XP.

Anyone here ever get to play Maniac Mansion on the NES...absolutely awsome game, kinda RPGish. It's about a group of kids that break into this mansion where the main character's girlfriend is being held captive by a mad scientist. There's so much to that game...its awsome lol.

My exposure to Maniac Mansion was on PC when playing Day of the Tentacle.  If you go into this guy's room (forget his name), you can use his computer and play the original.

Narunik.  Within your lifetime = not oldschool.

1994 or 1995 is probably the cutoff for most people at this point.  Of course it varies, but I think the status quo would say anything after 1995 is relatively current.

The originals weren't called "WoW" though...you would have needed to clarify that lol. They aren't really very old school games though...but I still liked them & find them far more entertaining than WoW. :P
