Racial Background in K-Con Cosplayers?

I'm 100% white. From what I've learned I'm mostly German but have minor Swedish blood in me too. I'm pretty proud to be from European heritage, I dunno why I just am! Though, even if I'm white, sometimes people say that I look a bit gray. It's kinda bizarre.

Lol, I'm European too, but only part Swedish. Mostly Italian and German, and like a dash of french.

Well you know the sad thing about italians is, is that we tan pretty well but we can have really nasty attitudes.It's funny really.

Well that explains part of why I'm so snarky all the time.

We did a commercial for health and I was wearing a dress with a moderately low neckline, and I held up the 'product' which was in a white container, but you couldn't even see it when I held it in front of me. D:

I actually do not. When I go outside, it is rare, I don't burn or tan. Its quite peculiar.
I've tried tanning lotion and everything, my skin does nothing.

Lol. My sister has that attitude too. But she's Half white half mexican so she's got this gorgeous tan skin all year round. She hates it because she thinks she can't cosplay.

You need to tell her that there are a ton of tan characters to be cosplayed. You can't just watch three anime (which happen to be the most mainstream, most advertised anime around at the moment) and assume that's the extent of it. There's tons of multiracial characters out there, you just have to look.

No, I totally agree. I primarily cosplay from video games, and there are great characters to choose from there also. Fran from FFXII, Dona from FFX (I love FF, but I swear I know about other things too, lol).

Oh yah~ lol. Video games have a variety of cosplay possiblities to choose from aside from anime/manga! I am heading that direction this year....me thinks...got a few months to prepare!

lets see on my dads side is what we call heinz 57 a bit of everything but we tend to reconize the irish part cuz thats where our suname came from and I'm assuming my pale burn in sun complextion comes from, dont really know for sure cuz he is practicaly an orphan so i've never had any family on that side to compair to

now on my moms side is primaraly native american, mescul apachee on my great grandma (i miss her she lived to 101 the sweetest lady) and comanche on my grampa

now this is somthing that has always buged me as racial thing when it is more like a spirital thing, geneticly I am about a 1/3 native  american, but a member of a cherokee tribe trying to get reconizanton

Those poll results are very interesting.  I have very mixed background: about even Native American, Anglo, Celtic, Germanic, and Scandanavian.  I marked Native American because that's what I look like and connect with most IMO.

I'm not too surprised by them, heh. Contrary to your example, Tofu, it seems like a lot of people will be of mixed blood but most of the blood will be european-white (and/or that will be what they associate with anyway). Pretty much what I expected coming into this poll, I reckon. Mm'hmm.

i have always found ist funny i mean look at me and my brothers we were commonly asked if we had the same father (we do)

matt= blue eyes sandy blond hair perpetual tan it seems like and gets darker in the summer

Karl= brown hair brown eyes and a completion kinda like jonny depp in the sence that one moment he can be seen as dark and other times a odd pale

and me some times i feel like gaffagen in beyond the pale, my hubby who is blond n blue eyed was rubbin my foot the otherday (yeah i spoiled) and my foot made his hands look tanned,  I told him "yeah hon i married you so our kids will have pigment!"
it seems sunlight just makes me paler it was a joke on a my japan trip because it was like to everyone "Nic and jaz's legs just keep getting whiter..."

Irish boy here! ...but no one ever guesses it (except my anthropology teacher one time was all "you're 'black Irish' ", that threw me for a loop). Usually they go off of however I'm talkin' at that time. I've gotten questions like "are you Russian?" to "are you from Argentina?" That one nearly made me fall out of my chair. XD But I guess I shouldn't be too surprised since I've grown up in a multi-lingual house.

A lot of things have gone down while growin' up that brings me to resent using that (or other shades) to describe myself or anyone. Along with the term "race". Just has negative connotations to me. Not everyone's opinion though, I understand that. ^^

I'm Italian, English, and a bunch of other things. Including, actually, 1/8th Cherokee. Which shows pretty well when I get a tan, but I haven't gotten a tan for a very, very, very long time. I'm pale like a bleached sheet covered in snow after a black and white filter has been used on it in Photoshop. I got all the English genes, and my brother got all the Italian/Native American/everything else that would make him tan.

When he was little we took him to Hawaii, and he got really tan. When we got back, people asked if he was adopted from a country in Africa.

Yeah.

EDIT: So it turns out I'm one fourth Italian, one fourth Irish, one eighth Cherokee and the rest of the three eighths is verious other mongrelings. Teehee, if I was a guy I really would be the perfect Lavi cosplayer. Is shot

I could go into a long tirade about racial check boxes on forms, but I will resist, since this isn't the place for it, lol. Simply put....the motivations for racial surveying in school or any institution is rarely genuine. I don't like to give my data to an organization I know will only use the information for money or something profitable. Tsk tsk tsk.

My mom is French and Dutch and my dad is Scottish and Irish. So my mom and brother both have nice thick hair, dark features, and are olive skinned while I picked up all the celtic genes making me pale with light features and thin hair. XD. I don't really mind, it just sucks when I get out in the sun to much and instead of tanning I get freckles across my nose and the tips of my hair start bleaching.
