Yup, I should've been more specific. I watched eps 1-10 on the overseas dvd's, which is why I wasn't sure until episode 2 that Rukia was female. The translator wasn't even getting the gender of the personal pronouns right... let alone minor details like case, tense, singular/plural, syntax, etc. :x
Sometimes I imagine an executive in one of these anime houses looking over the shoulder of the translator and asking what all the angry fan letters written in English say, and being told "Ano... this very supergood verbatim! You having translator be many raise!" And the executive walks away, thinking "Boy, I'm sure glad he knows English better than he knows Japanese."
