« on: July 14, 2009, 12:52:57 pm »
Ok so at Sakuracon 09 I had made a Glomp Me sign. (you can see my avi)
I was wondering what the rules are on signs because I would like to carry mine around this year.

From the Policies section of the Kumoricon page:
Quote
All attendees are expected to treat others in a courteous and respectful manner. Harassment and solicitation are prohibited. This is not only our policy, but the law. Please let the staff know if you are witness to any of the following***:

Solicitation
* Displaying of signs with profanity, explicit or graphic language, insults, threats, solicitations, or room party advertisements (i.e. “Glomp me”, “Hug the Ninja”, “Room Party Info”)
* Distribution of flyers around the convention space without permission of Kumoricon Executive Staff, or attaching them to walls or surfaces. Some flyers can be left at the info desk for distribution. Please see the info desk for the flyer policy.
* Selling of items or favors outside of convention sanctioned events and areas.

Anyone who engages in any of these activities will be given a warning. If an attendee continues the behavior, or engages in similarly offensive behavior, their badge will be removed, and they will be asked to leave the Convention Space. Egregious or extreme cases may result in a badge removal without a prior warning.

Well, the point is that is the rule. You can argue about the difference in intention, but what you would be doing is the exact thing the policy forbids.

I'd suggest not trying it. You aren't going to be the exception to the rule. Even if you feel like what you'd be doing should be okay, you won't be allowed to because then everyone else would feel like they should be allowed to also.

Actually Eve, the policies on the site as of current are outdated and BADLY in need of an update.

Glomp Me is NOT a form of solicitation as it is not something for something. hence it IS allowed.

Hopefully we cna get the policies updated to reflect this.

That said, if we receive complaints about signs, we do reserve the right to place a warning and then remove the sign as needed.

Last year there were tons of signs like that, and even booths in the dealers hall that sold litle 'Glomp Me' signs.
So I'm pretty sure it's okay.. (0_0)

Eve, the signs we had problems with were "Will x FOR x", those were the ones edging into solicitation.

We had "Will yaoi for Pocky" or "will sing for glomps" and that is where it became the business of the staff. Those are the solicitation signs.

That should be nice and redundant by now.  :)

Ah, gotcha. Okay, good to know.

To me, I guess I have a more general understanding of the term solicitation, so a sign saying "X Me" sounds just as much like solicitation as anything else. But I am not arguing it, just explaining where my misunderstanding came from. ^_^

It is now:
Warning I are eater of BRAINZ.
But its likely I wont bring it. My cousin still has it from when he took it to some yaoi con he went to.

so what about the sign in my avi, i was wondering if i put a little disclaimer on the bottom, like warning, this is not a real offer, or whatever. would i be able to still use the sign?

No you wont be available to use the sign. Like it has already been explain it can be anything about doing something for something else even if it has a warning sign or not, and it will be taken away if seen. So there is no problems better not take it.
