Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland
« on: July 25, 2009, 12:01:21 am »
At last, after long talk, a trailer has been released for this. I personally am ecstatic over this movie. I already was fascinated just by the idea of Tim Burton doing a live action/CG hybrid interpretation of the two Lewis Carrol stories, but now that I've seen the trailer, I am antsy...to say the least.

I want this movie in my hands. Right. Now.

See the trailer here: http://www.apple.com/trailers/disney/aliceinwonderland/

Thoughts?

Because she is pure ego, heh. She figuratively has a massive head in the story, and Burton saw fit to take that to a literal representation. I think it works really well because everything about Wonderland is so surreal, it makes sense that the only normal looking characters are those without any insanity in their personalities, heh

I recall several months ago, I heard about this, and looked up as much stuff for it, as possible.
I'm so ecstatic that Tim Burton decided to do this, and I can't wait for it.
Sadly, I must though, since 2010 is quite some time away. (At least it is, in my mind.)

Granted, I think why it seems so far away for me, is because I have sooooo much planned for the rest of this year, it's not even funny...>.o;;

Oh well~! Next year should be a blast, especially when this movie comes out~!

Yup, Alan Rickman as the Caterpillar, and Christopher Lee is the Jabberwock! That's crazy awesome. I love both those actors (if you like Alan Rickman, go see Sweeney Todd!).

I love all the people they got to play as the characters. lol. But who is the white witch that Ann Hathaway plays? I haven't read Lewis Carrol's actual book, so maybe that's why I don't know. lol.

Yeah, you would have to have read both of Carrol's stories to get the full spectrum of what Burton is doing in this movie. There are two stories, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, and Burton has essentially mingled the two for the film he's making. The White Queen is from the sequel story, Through the Looking Glass. I definitely recommend reading them because they are just such a joy. Even without the movie coming up, they are definitely worthwhile stories. ^_^

Oh hoh. I can't wait to see this movie. ....Now I have to go read the book again. 8DD I agree, the Mad hatter looks very creepy. Especially his fingernails. ;;>> I'm curious to see what kind of voice Johnny Depp will use. Something more towards what he did in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, with kind of a sickeningly sweet tone, or more Sweeny Todd.

I think it is for sure going to be a more high-pitched Willy Wonka toned voice, with a lot of laughs and sniffles, lol.

Hmmm, I would guess it probably won't go past PG. Really, Burton is just doing the same thing he did with Willy Wonka. He is making it darker/more surreal, but scary? I don't think so. Not scary enough to get a higher rating, in my opinion.

Really? Hm, I didn't even know that. I guess it makes sense though. Pirates did have death, blood, and murderous cutthroats.

I'm not sure what Alice in Wonderland will be. It really could go in any direction. Too early to figure it out, heh

Yeah, same here. I was totally planning to see it midnight showing, but things happened here and there and I didn't get out til Wednesday. It was worth it though, got to see it with my fiancee and an old friend from Cali. Anyway, long story short, fantastic film that really knocked my socks off in several ways.

haha, indeed.

Anyway, I majorly derailed this thread, so getting back on topic...I am really excited to see the Cheshire Cat. And Kahlan reminded me of the little Oyster Story ("The Walrus and The Carpenter") which would totally fit into the movie. It is so dark and morbid, I can't see Burton not including it in his vision, heh
