Policy on Prop Chainsaw
« on: July 31, 2009, 10:45:56 pm »
Well I know the policy on Prop guns, but I'm going as Dr. Salvador(Chainsaw guy from Resident Evil 4) and I'm not sure what the policy for a chainsaw would be.
For example, can it make chainsaw sounds?
Any help is very much appreciated
Thanks all =)

why don't you remove the chains from a real chainsaw, that way you have no way of actually hurting someone, that should be allowed. If it's not allowed, than I don't know.

IF you wanted to use a real chainsaw, that wouldn't be enough. You would probably have to remove the motor, and basically fill it with cement or something to ensure that no part of it would actually work or function in any way.

It would probably be easier if you just found a plastic chainsaw or made one.

But as far as policies go, I don't know of any rule specific enough to apply to chainsaws. Basically, metal + engine or motor = never allowed. We'll need an official view on it, though.

well, you can't bring something that can cut, so if you remove the chain, it can't cut... but the thing Im also concerned about is if it has an exhaust and it spew's out smoke, than you can't actually turn it on inside the convention.

It looks like it has been tried in the past, and it is just a simple no to any real chainsaw, in any form. That's the official word on it. Fake chainsaws are okay, toys are okay, but a real one, no matter how incapacitated, won't be allowed.

I'm sure you could find a fake one, though. Good luck.

Well after reading the other thread, a real chainsaw is out of the question, so fake prop chainsaw from a Halloween store it is.
Thanks everybody =)

I made my chainsaw for Ash from Evil Dead from one I got at toy r us
Also there is a real cool one online but they were back ordered for the last Kumoricon so I just remade the toys r us one.
Very life like sound and chain moves so I would use that.
