some say a persons mind can meet anothers over great distance...
I love that you know that.
True.
Done it.
Eerie.
I *love* the West Side Story dream. I, of course, would be on the side of the Dormers--provided, of course, that I got to bring my fishtank and my kitten to live at the dorm with me.
Speaking of which:
(a) My pre-con jitters dream last night after the KC meeting:
I dreamt that my beloved Girlfishie, who G-d willing will be 12 next month, who is a South American cichlid, a Green Severum, who I have raised for 11 of her 12 years, and who has a disease called hole-in-the-head (um, literally), anyway I dreamt she was living under the crabapple tree on my parents' lawn and forced the lid off the tank to jump out of my pocket to attend con with me.
This clearly reflects my anxiety about whether I can afford the money and the sleep dep to commute home from con (at least after set-up on Friday night) to feed her and check on her.
(b) There is, in fact, a dorm, walking distance (10 blocks) from the Hilton, where, in fact, I have a temporary reservation to stay during con (I'm a PSU alum). It's called the Ondine. Kinda noisy and chaotic, several stories high, but only $40/night for a room with 2 single beds, its own bathroom, its own kitchenette (bring own cookware & dishes), and (best part) overnight parking a block away in a PSU lot for only $8/night. Kinda sketchy in that I'd be potentially walking home alone there at 4 am (maybe someone would pimp me an off-duty yoji or their equivalent). Kinda sketchy in that they don't exactly have staff to check you in or out like at a hotel, you basically show up and try to find an R.A. (residence advisor). But hopefully it will work out......the main thing for me (and this relates definitely to pre-con jitters, because other than about my fish, my biggest pre-con jitter is sleep dep, awake worrying about whether i'll get sleep during con!), the past 2 KC's I literally got basically *no* sleep and it was not easy on me. This was not for fun reasons. 2 years ago, my bosses were hardliners and I was going to get fired if I didn't show up for work Fri, Sat, and Mon of con. I ended up paying someone $10/hr to commute me back and forth to Eugene. Last year, a very nice lady let me share her hotel room with her son. I had no idea she was a chicken farmer (seriously), and she had no idea that I was allergic to feathers. 'Nuff said....Asthma at con = not fun. Hence my trying to find a non-con space for sleep for this year....especially since Creation Station is open until 4 am this year. (well that and outrageous parking rates)....when I made the reservation they implied the dorm was empty for the summer, but when i stopped by last night, uh, no, not by a longshot. crowded and loud. oy vey!!!!!
