pre-con dream jitters
« on: August 13, 2009, 11:48:24 am »
ok I have had my 3rd trippy pre-con related dream.
I dont know how many of you know the Jack Skellington at con but he is a very close friend of mine.

The first dream was totally weird. It mixed fashion show with sleep over and con.
well I slept of at justin's supposid little bro's house (he doesnt have a lil bro in real life) and jumped out the window. when i landed on the ground i have magically changed into my Jo cosplay and  noticed there was good foot or 2 of fresh powdery snow on the ground and Jack walks up and we walk to gether and i'm basically freaking out abou tthe snow in aug/sept

Then i had a dreami was in the anime dating game dressed as jam and disguesed my voice so jack wouldnt tell and i won.. wooo.. lol

then tonight i had a precon related dream and i was at the supposid location it was all the kcon's i've been too mix with scon amd random botiques i've been in. I played games and found my badge in a box and avoided the newb precon meeting and found patrick (mustash) and we chatted and i gave him a hard time because he didnt get his badge yet..

I had a really bizarre con dream about a week ago..... basically instead of staying in hotels we were in weird dorm rooms, and in the end it turned out that like half of the people at con wanted to turn Kumoricon into like over a month long thing and wouldn't let anyone else leave.

So the people who wanted to leave con at the regular time, and the people who wanted to stay a really long time ended up splitting up into two seperate gangs and in the end there was this huge face-off at Lloyd Center like West Side Story style...

It was insane..... XD

ha I laugh at the last dream. XD

I sadly haven't had one yet. But I usually have it like a week before. Either that or I did have one, I just don't remember it.  :'<

Hahaha, a while ago (before I'd really started my costumes, and I was kind of stressed about making sure to get them done on time) I totally had a dream that it was Kcon, but I hadn't finished ANY of my outfits, so I kind of BS'd one and spent forever on the hair and makeup... And missed the whole con because of it. And I woke up and I was like LOLWAT

That was back in freaking June. I'm a little neurotic, apparently. I think I had one last night too, but today was the Tea Party meetup so I was dreaming about it instead xD

Yeah, I had one last night. It was wierd:

Me and Sahara(oslapedo) decided that we didn't want to come on Pre-Reg day, so we stayed home and packed. Then, the next day, Megan(CatchxMe) and Dana(Danayoki) came over to our house to pick us up. Once we got to the con, we were all on rollerblade for some reason, and there was some cosplayer dressed like a troll, chasing us around. Then, the droll thing got on stilits and started chasing us more. After that, me and Sahara went to our room to change into Ryoko and Itsuko.(:

I had my third one just the other night, too.  What was especially weird about this one was that everyone there was actual anime characters.
My cosplay plans for 2022 (thus far): Vanir from Konosuba

last year i had a dream that i was standing in line for the whole night.
i only actually was in line for about 15 minutes because we got there early

anyway, this year i have dreams and little hallucinations about it too

i had a dream that my friend matt and i were doing our panel naked, and everyone was laughing, and then we were suddenly sitting at my house and i woke up.
it was really strange, but that just happens

OK, so it isn't a Con dream, but it was freaking weird.  Mainly because I wasn't asleep at the time.  It was more like a pre-cog thing.  It happened right after my wife and I had performed our (ahem) "morning bedroom exercises".  I mention this just because it seems like it may be relevant, and adds to the weirdness factor of the whole thing.

The whole thing was like a vivid lightning bolt that struck my senses.  I saw it in color as well.  I am looking out the front window of my house towards the street. (we live in the back of a large cul-de-sac, so the area in front is all a big circle of asphalt).  My car isn't parked in front at the curb, but instead a brown Chevy van is parked there.  I got the impression it was some sort of government vehicle.  Not secret service or anything, just government, like forest service, or child services, or something.  The side door was closed, but I think that it had just been shut.  Standing on the sidewalk is a girl, maybe 13 or 14years old.  She is sort of tomboyish. It has been awhile since I had the dream, but I think she is wearing either jam shorts or jeans.  I know her top was a T-shirt.  I think it had horizontal stripes, and was yellow.  She has sandy brown hair and freckles. and is holding the handlebars of what appears to be a motorized uni-cycle.  I can see the wheel in front, it is a sort of ATV balloon style wheel.  I really don't remember much else about the vehicle.  She is staring directly at me and our eyes meet.

That is it.  Now why I had this dream (it lasted all of 3 seconds) I still have no idea.  All I can say is it was very, VERY, vivid.  I told my wife about it right after it happened,(awkward moment), but I felt it was important for some reason.  I still have no idea what the relevance of it was.

Just the other night I had a dream on loop that was nothing but the same thing over and over again. I had a wig styling malfunction, so I go across the hall from my hotel room (though for some reason it was last year's Doubletree hallway) and knock on the door. A girl in a sailor fuku opens the door, and I ask her if I can borrow some hairspray to fix my wig, and I'll give it back as soon as I'm done. She gives me a massive bottle of Aquanet and I go back across the hall. Then it started back up again. Got kinda boring after awhile.

Last night, I had a very...weird dream.

I remember two things: it was extensive, and it was weird.

I only remember one particular scene, which was early on in the dream:

I was driving along in a stolen 1991 blue sedan at 2:40ish in the morning, and realized I really ought to turn my lights on.  I wasn't driving very fast, so I decided not to turn on my brights.  However, I couldn't figure out which settings were fog lights, regular lights for night driving, and brights.  So, while driving along at ~45mph, I GOT OUT OF THE CAR, GOT ON THE ROOF, POPPED A WHEELIE, AND TWEAKED THE KNOB WHILE LOOKING AT THE LIGHTS TO MAKE SURE THEY WERE BRIGHT ENOUGH TO SEE, BUT NOT SUPER BRIGHT.

Seriously, WHAT THE HELL?

That was the most normal, rational portion of that dream though.  I can't remember what the rest of it was; I just remember that it was so obscure, and unimaginably irrational, that I couldn't remember it when I woke up.

I don't think I've had a dream since I was 11, yeah. Started hydrating myself better, and they all went away. Which is good, because most of my dreams ended in tragedy.

What do you think causes dreams? Memories? Repressed conscience? What?

If you're talking to me, what I'm saying is that if you somehow found a way to avoid entering the R.E.M. cycle, you wouldn't have dreams.  But I'm not sure it's possible to consistently avoid the R.E.M. stage of sleep unless you're doing nothing except power-naps, where you wake up during the 2nd or 3rd stage of sleep, and thus get more bang for your buck (at least, that's the idea)

If you're talking to Kylite, I think that's all the information he has on the subject.  Might be an interesting thing to research though.  I'd be looking it up right now, but I'm about ready to hit the hay...

SCARY DREAM LAST NIGHT. Dx
Uwaaaah, I'll share with you guys though. ;3
So, me, Sahara, Dana, and Megan were all dancing in the con lobby for some reason, and then tons of other people started dancing with us, so it got really crowded. After a few more minutes, I ran out to get some air, and there was a huge U.F.O near a tree. I screamed and ran inside, then unpstairs to my hotel room. Sahara and Megan followed, and we all looked out the window at the huge U.F.O. Suddenly, it started to throw rainbow eggs at our window, which fell to the hot pavement, created rainbow scrambled eggs. OKAY SO THIS WAS A LONG DREAM, AND I DON'T FEEL LIKE TYPING THE REST, BUT AFTER THAT THERE WERE MORE U.F.O'S AND MORE PEOPLE CAME TO MY ROOM TO LOOK AT THEM, AND AGH, FREAKY. xD

So, I looked quite a few things up. Apparently everyone dreams. Scientists theorize that some people forget because, "This may be attributed to alcohol consumption, certain antibiotics, fever, lack of sleep, high levels of stress, and/or unconscious fears about the content of your dreams. Some researchers believe that certain people have a genetic disposition to forget their dreams as they come out of their sleep."
Here are a few interesting links:
http://www.dreammoods.com/reference/faq.htm#dontdream
http://www.skepdic.com/dreams.html
So, I am having dreams, just not remembering them due to... something...?
Hypnos, that's confusing.  ???  :-\

Okay, so I often have dreams even when I power nap (15 mins - an hour). How is it that I can remember them? Is it possible to go into the fourth stage that quickly?
I've always kind of wondered that, because that doesn't really make sense to me. =/

That article seems entirely inconsistent with my prior research.  I'll have to look into it further.  When I researched the subject about a year ago, the specific information I found which was entirely contradicting of what that article states was:
1. The REM phase is the 4th (AKA the deepest) phase of sleep
2. The REM phase uses approximately 80% of the energy used when awake, whereas the first and second phases use something like 15-20% and the third uses even less than that.

I'll have to look this up some time in the Winter or something.  I never have the energy to gather good data during the Summer. :/

some say a persons mind can meet anothers over great distance...
I love that you know that.
True.
Done it.
Eerie.
I *love* the West Side Story dream. I, of course, would be on the side of the Dormers--provided, of course, that I got to bring my fishtank and my kitten to live at the dorm with me.
Speaking of which:
(a) My pre-con jitters dream last night after the KC meeting:
I dreamt that my beloved Girlfishie, who G-d willing will be 12 next month, who is a South American cichlid, a Green Severum, who I have raised for 11 of her 12 years, and who has a disease called hole-in-the-head (um, literally), anyway I dreamt she was living under the crabapple tree on my parents' lawn and forced the lid off the tank to jump out of my pocket to attend con with me.
This clearly reflects my anxiety about whether I can afford the money and the sleep dep to commute home from con (at least after set-up on Friday night) to feed her and check on her.
(b) There is, in fact, a dorm, walking distance (10 blocks) from the Hilton, where, in fact, I have a temporary reservation to stay during con (I'm a PSU alum). It's called the Ondine. Kinda noisy and chaotic, several stories high, but only $40/night for a room with 2 single beds, its own bathroom, its own kitchenette (bring own cookware & dishes), and (best part) overnight parking a block away in a PSU lot for only $8/night. Kinda sketchy in that I'd be potentially walking home alone there at 4 am (maybe someone would pimp me an off-duty yoji or their equivalent). Kinda sketchy in that they don't exactly have staff to check you in or out like at a hotel, you basically show up and try to find an R.A. (residence advisor). But hopefully it will work out......the main thing for me (and this relates definitely to pre-con jitters, because other than about my fish, my biggest pre-con jitter is sleep dep, awake worrying about whether i'll get sleep during con!), the past 2 KC's I literally got basically *no* sleep and it was not easy on me. This was not for fun reasons. 2 years ago, my bosses were hardliners and I was going to get fired if I didn't show up for work Fri, Sat, and Mon of con. I ended up paying someone $10/hr to commute me back and forth to Eugene. Last year, a very nice lady let me share her hotel room with her son. I had no idea she was a chicken farmer (seriously), and she had no idea that I was allergic to feathers. 'Nuff said....Asthma at con = not fun. Hence my trying to find a non-con space for sleep for this year....especially since Creation Station is open until 4 am this year. (well that and outrageous parking rates)....when I made the reservation they implied the dorm was empty for the summer, but when i stopped by last night, uh, no, not by a longshot. crowded and loud. oy vey!!!!!

Okay, I had two freaky dreams last night.

First one was normal-ish until I was watching t.v. and the news came on. And the breaking news, the big story for the night, was that two hikers had gone missing... and the only thing rescuers had found was a video camera.
Typically when I dream, I may start playing a video game or watch something, and then I'm not playing or watching it anymore: I'm in it. This trend continued in this dream. Because the next thing I know, I'm in the forest with a friend (don't know which). It's night, it's pitch black, we have flash lights, we're freezing, and we can see our breath. And for about a minute we going through the forest, trying to get out, until we find a car. Thinking quickly, I grab a rock and smash one of the windows. My friend then gets in and hot wires the car, while I'm still standing outside... and the beam of light from my flashlight keeps hitting the eyes of what I can tell are wolves. And there were quite a few of them. But my friend finishes hot wiring the car, and we now have heat and a form of transportation. So then we're driving down a dirt road and we enter what I can tell is some kind of summer camp, but we keep driving. Because the lights are on in all the cabins, and the doors are open... but we can't see any signs of life... aside from wolves and blood. Next thing I can remember is that it is day break, and I'm running for my life: because there is this woman, who I can best decribe as looking like the Other Mother from Coraline, chasing me. There is a whole lot of running at that point, and me shooting behind me with a Walther PPK styled Air Soft gun. Don't remember much after that, except realising that the wolves were all once people, and this crazy bitch was the cause of it, and then waking up to the sound of my grandma's cat meowing at the foot of my bed.

That's interesting, although I don't see why someone would go through all that trouble for a "perfect nap". The body needs what the body needs.
