Captain Planet in 2010?
« on: August 21, 2009, 12:23:47 pm »
(Took this somewhere off of Gaia)

Offical Site : http://turner.com/planet/
Captain Planet Foundation : http://captainplanetfdn.org/
IMDb : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098763/
Wikipedia : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Planet

Warner Brothers studio announced on January 18, 2008 that a live action movie is to be made and is scheduled in 2010. The movie is currently in pre-production

Writer Michael Reaves reimagined the Captain Planet concept in a script he wrote for a theatrical movie in 1997, entitled "Dark Planet." It was darker than the series, and was set in a post-apocalyptic time period. The script was met with acceptance, but "got lost in the shuffle when Turner and Warner Bros. merged."

Ted Turner is currently in talks regarding a Captain Planet movie.

Such a corny show, but I'm definitely interested to see where this goes.

And I'll be the first to point out that every single actor except Aisha Tyler looks way too old for their role. Excited to see Zhang Ziyi and Sean William Scott though. Could be promising. Could be, heh

True but you never know with live actions. Directors seem to choose people that aren't quite the perfect fit for the roll. But I think these actors could pull it off pretty well with the skills they have.

Yeah, I believe they all could totally pull it off if the entire adaptation removes the ages specific to the show, if it changes things like that it should be good. I like the prospect of a darker version, too. The cartoon always seemed to be skimming the surface of some really terrible stuff, but just never went all the way in, you know? So, this is exciting, heh

Oh so true. In this day and age they'll most likely make it much darker. They'll probably change the outfits too and the whole atmosphere of the film. If they do, it should turn out pretty well. This is one thing that I don't want them to make exactly like the original. But I don't want them to totally drop that concept either.

Yeah, I agree. I'd hate for this to just get dropped. This sounds like it could be really cool and creative. while still keeping the original message (I can see the message being way amped up, actually, based on the growing intensity of the Green Movement).

You Think Al Gore supports this movie?  ;D

The power and fights in this should be top not. Wonder what "heart" is going to look like though. hmmm. I don't think they'll drop it. They probably decided to make it because of the green movement.

I have no doubt that Gore would back this movie. Heck, he may even cameo as...himself! Who else? lol

But yes, it should have some pretty amazing cinematography and scene-layouts. I always remembered the Scorched Earth concept that a lot of villains tried to use (and always failed obviously), but with this being somewhat post-Apocalyptic, I can only imagine the potential imagery there, especially with this concept.

Wow, I need to learn to talk quieter! In late 2007 early 2008 my friends and I were talking about 80's cartoons that would make silly live actions shows and I said "Captain Planet would be AMAZING!"

Though, at the time I was joking around about it I was saying that David Bowie would make an amazing Captain Planet if just for his flamboyant-ness... and Whoopie Goldberg would make a hillarious Gaia. But this was all in jest.

This is the first I've heard about it actually being concidered. Hm, it'll be interesting to see either way!

Yeah, you gotta be careful with your conversations. Don't you know the major studios have tapped all our phones and can hear our conversations as a means of drawing movie ideas from everyday conversations? lol

I guess it was only a matter of time... now all they need is gargoyles and then my childhood will be gone... Except for pokemon, which will probably be made into live action as well... and now that I said that, it's going to happen knowing my luck.

I was weirded out today when listening to my favorite classic rock station they were doing a "Mother Nature Block Party" or something weird like that and when they came back from one of the commercials they played the Captain Planet theme. xD

With longer hair I could so her looking pretty similar but I think she actually doesn't look old enough.  This is mother earth we are talking about, she is pretty freak'n old.  Although, she is a timeless beauty..  As for the rest of them, ya they look to old to be kocky/naive young adults just now experiencing the horrors of the industrial world and recycling ignorance at its extremes!  I do believe the people shown would make actors for there parts however.  Especially with a tweaked concept, this group should do a great job if they are the ones that get finalized for the role.

if it's anything like Transformers, they will redo the theme song, but probably won't use it *scoffs at the idea*

They'd have it sung by My chemical romance or Taylor swift or something. I dunno, it depends on the theme of the movie. XD

Since it's post-apocalyptic, they are going to go with some band that is considered "dark" by mainstream audiences, but still has absolutely no credibility with truly dark musicians or bands - They'll probably go with Linkin Park...again.

Its true actually that any song can go black metal. I've heard songs that I thought couldn't possibly go in that direction did. ^_^

Charles, if I was a movie producer I'd pay you to make the song.
