The forums a year ago
« on: August 28, 2009, 12:17:37 am »
anyone else miss it? xD

I dunno I used to be WAY active around then. I remember the countdown thread that got erased cause of uh well those who were there certainly remember xD AND IT WAS TOTALLY NOT MY FAULT well actually it was

I dunno the forums have changed a lot since back then though : o there were a lot of funny convos I remember taking part in (the creation of the spoons anyone?)

and I made so many new friends then through the forums : ) the forums have changed a lot, not necessarily for the bad. Theres a lot of new members now. Im sad I dont know many of them O_o but ah well maybe I'm just acting like an old fart remembering the old days xD *sits in rocking chair and knits*

I actually don't miss the "old ways" at all. Things have been rather enjoyable (to me) around here lately. No drama, just peace and relevant conversation, heh

I remember back in '07, when the veterans were all still hanging around. A lot of them lurk from time to time, but mostly it's all newer and younger people. Although I will admit, the new wave of people have finally settled down for the most part, which is good.

Oh wow, it doesn't really feel like a year...

You told me a while back it's better to focus on the present... Well, a lot of the people from last year are still here. Think of something entertaining to talk about then! :P The good times are what you make of them. You can't just wish for them to happen!
And with so many new members, the good times can only grow. New drama will spark just like it has over the past year, but... There'll be good to balance out the bad.

Really, the forums have become a lot better over the past year. If you compare it to years before, that is xD I love how many people are in it and how connected we are, and... Oh god the MEETUPS. I remember back when it wasn't even one a month!

A lot of non-relevant things have happened in my life (like starting college, making huge steps towards independence, MEW con...) that so significantly overshadow changes to the forums.  Also, I've been here for pretty much every day of it.  I try not to miss a beat, because if I'm out of the loop, it's too hard to moderate effectively, so all the transitions have gone pretty smoothly, besides the flare-ups that spawned those changes.

Probably the biggest difference for me is that the rules are now my direct responsibility to enforce, so I've found myself putting myself in an uncomfortable place between my friends and the rules; or even worse: between two friends.  It's awkward and uncomfortable, but I'm pleased to be able to do what I can to help things run smoothly.

I can't remember the countdown thread at this point.  I'm sure it's among the thousands filed away in my subconscious, but I can't say it holds and particular memories for me. :P

A year ago there were more Spoons on the forums. Where'd my people go?! D:

Hehe.
I barely remember last year, just some significant things, I joined in July or something I think, it was after my very first cosplay picnic. (I was so intimidated there that if someone talked to me I would have hid from them.) XD
It's not that I liked it BETTER, it was just different.
There were some really great people on a year ago that don't come around anymore, don't get me wrong there's great people now too.
A lot has changed, within myself and on these forums, it's really different now.
I miss 2010.

Granted I wasn't on the forums a year ago. Almost, but not quite. A lot's changed since I joind in January? some really cool people aren't on here anymore an I miss talkin to em, but there's still some pretty chill people who get on now.

I agree with Nikki, there are some strange people on now.. Some of which will not be named *coughMIKEcough*

@Demony: One of your spoons hasn't left!
@Nikki: WAS THAT DIRECTED TO ME? Just kidding xD [/shot]

yeah...
i should have been here last year...
i really would have liked to have known all of these people you all speak of.
i really enjoy being here currently, and i don't think i have talked to anyone on here that i disliked for any reason.

the only thing i don't like about this forum is that it makes me miss the con itself..

I prefer the Kumoricon forums to the Sakuracon forums, actually, because the Kumoricon forums actually provide me with something to do, so whereas SCMB makes me want to be getting stuff done and racing towards the con, the Kumoricon forums are totally chill just rolling along. :>

The Sakuracon forums are always so dead and lacking in new happenings.  Even in a bad month we get a few thousand new posts here.  It's a reason to actually check on things besides "because I have to" :D

Yeah the Sakuracon Forums are always dead and cold, no real community to it.

I think I first logged in back in 2005. Imagine what about 400% turnover does to a place. I guess life just takes people hostage, and doesn't let them go. Lucky for me I can visit here while at work.

I remember the forums a year ago, good times. I was a much more active poster then. I think one of the big turn offs for the old veteran members was the HUGE wave of new people that came into the boards. For me the boards went from a nice little community cafe to a sprawling fast pace starbucks. Especially with the spoon and fork kingdoms thing. It was just impossible to keep a voice in the community with so many bodys filling up the place. That and like someone else said... college got kind of important. I still come back every now and again to lurk. I just dont really find the time anymore because of how busy I got and I dont really feel like I know anyone else that is active here anymore. In the long run the influx of people are good for the con. The younger age will be attending for the next several years and will eventually be the veterans while the rest of us slowly fade away or move onto moderator positions or some such thing.

Haha, you guys could try making a 'veteran-only' thread? :0 Like say in the first post you can only post if you registered so-and-so ago, or have a certain number of posts.

... O 'course, there may be people that ignore that rule, but it would give you guys the chance to have a hangout to yourselves.
