Signs? And mine doesn't have "Glomp me" on it (please read)
« on: August 28, 2009, 06:26:58 pm »
So I was reading about having signs and stuff and apparently they're prohibited ._.

But this year I'm going to be selling stuff and I've made a chart/sign that's about the size of standard printing paper that list my prices, the item, etc. and I'm going to pretty much be holding it the whole time.

So my question is, is this okay or not?  ???

Are you a vendor in the vendor hall or an artist in AA?

If so, then that's fine; you've paid money for the right to be selling stuff at the con.

If you're not a vendor or artist, this would be a problem. :P

We can't carry signs? Even if they're props for cosplay? :O

._. Oh well I'm sorry for posting then since I didn't sign up to be apart of the vendors or AA.

I'm kinda bummed now knowing that I can't sell any of my stuff XD But if those are the rules then I guess it can't be helped.

These are the policies:

http://www.kumoricon.org/?page_id=44

There is not a blanket ban on signage.

As for selling things in the hotel outside of official events, that is not likely to be allowed by the hotel. It isn't allowed in convention space.

The signs that are being banned are the "Will *SERVICE* for *GOODS/SERVCE*" signs. such as "Will glomp for Pocky" or "Will yaoi for food". They have been a problem.
Signs like that are "soliciting" which is legalese for "too close to prostitution".

Signs that say "glomp me" or "Hug Me" are OK. As are normal cosplay signs like the "OBJECTION!" signs.

You will need permission from the owners/custodians of the area you intend to sell in (whether this be the hotel, the city if you are doing it on the sidewalk, etc.). (In short: Probably it's not ok.)

You can sell outside of the hotel.  We have the right to control all vending and sales that happen in conspace, hallways and lobbies.  We cannot control you selling in your own room.

All vending in con space OR public hotel space has to be OK'ed by me.

[Edited to add]
As per what Jeff pointed out, the city likely has rules about sidewalk vendors.  What I should say is that outside of the hotel is your own lookout ;)  Inside, nope.  People pay good money and sign contracts for the right to sell within the hotel.

There'll be a swap meet, but it says not to sell for over 10$.

Ah, kudos for whoever came up with this rule. I remember the horror of those signs. The horrah, THE HORRAH!
