Heh, man it doesn't even feel like two months. XD But once it comes down to a week I know I might panic a little.

Eruka Frog hat is gettin' there...
I'm using clay to make the hat look smoother, not exactly the best way to go about making something that's going to be on your head, but I was desperate =(
I ran out of clay though, so i have to go get more today in order to finish the rim, add the lip, and build up around the eyes. But when that's all done I get to paint it!

ANTI-PROGRESS!
I just decided that my old Eruka Frog dress is too horrible to wear to the con, so I'm making a new one.
This dress was the first thing I ever made, so it sucked pretty hardcore. I tried to salvage it, but it's more trouble than it's worth.
Going back to the store to get more fabric, I'll have another one by tonight or tomorrow lol

Hang on. I might have an idea that can help. I can't find the link to it on deviantart, but what someone did was take the plastic canvas used for yarn embroidery and stitch it together in the shape of the wig they wanted. They then covered it in foam to smooth out the roughness of the canvas. It looked like it fit very well on their head. Too bad I can't find it.

The canvas was just this stuff from Michaels: http://www.fun2make.co.uk/Plastic-Canvas-3-Square_0_0_10WWB.jpg
The foam was super thin foam that looked like it was used as insulation or real basic, thin bed foam about 1/8th inch wide.

You can try making the hat out of Craft foam, too. It might bend if you hit it with a heat gun.

Craft foam doesn't bend on a bias when heated. If heated too much, it melts.

Wonderflex, on the other hand, is a much more expensive, labor-intensive and lighter alternative.

Stick with the hat you've got. It looks great. Just don't drop it.

Shanime,

Are you using PaperClay? That stuff is super light. It's a lot more expensive, but it's strong and easy to work with. Plus it sands really well for smooth edges.

Okay,
so I'm making my Hamtaro either today or tomorrow after school.
It should take a grand total of a few hours to make, so I should be good. It also shouldn't cost very much as it's just enough fabric for a hoodie and some face paint...
I SHOULD BE POSTING PICTURES OF IT SOON  8)
Next con: Kumoricon
Make sure to pop in to the Tiptoe Through the TARDIS panel this year.

yes I am actually :) it is definitely much lighter than the clay at walmart, but it was still quite a bit heavier than when it started. I'll probably only wear this costume for about half the day anyways, crazy heels, heavy hat, big dress...it's just not practical to wear all day, but it should be fine for a few hours. And yes, NO DROPPING THE HAT! I'm going to try to seal it with something so that it's not as breakable but I don't know what..

Well good luck with that! I just hope it doesn't overbalance and break.

Soon as I get home two more rows of grommets are going on the vestments, I'mma make my rosary and I'mma see about either making the sleeves or patterning the cassock. I wanna get this outfit done and over with.

Since I'm a terrible procrastinator, rather than a reward-system, I've got myself deadline punishment. If I don't get Russia's Jacket sewn by the 20th, $100 goes in the jar.

Luckily I have an easy pattern. I'm actually stunned. It's super easy.

LtCommander, I hope all goes well.

One thing I did to stretch my clay when I was younger was to make a foil core and then smooth the clay around that. I had kind of this obsession with making every single Sailor moon wand (and I almost did it, too), and I found that the foil core made the wands a lot lighter. It also added stength to it, too. It's worth a shot at the very least

Dude, the gun and grommets are looking awesome! Way to go, guys!

We found a huge clothes pin that we can use for a prop with rozen Maiden. And we got a cool lantern to use with Dark Woods Circus. I found a better skirt for Death the kid, and we got some stuffed animals that we are going to try to make into backpack type things.

Here's the lantern:

(beautiful pic of me, btw)

And I bought this cute bag. If I can't get a nice little briefcase, this is what I'll use for my bag for Athena and Anri, and possibly also Meiko.

I think it might be a camera bag, but whatevs.

Well ain't that purdy.

Workin' on vestigial bits and pieces for Vaclav's belts, so if I work fast I ought to at least have the shields done by the end of the day. Then I move on to the crosses, and I've got to make his rosary at some point as well and I'm not looking forward to figuring out how to do that one.

Also fighting a very strange urge to cosplay Snow Villiers. I'm too giiiiiiirly D: I would make a terribad Snow.

Edit: while one of them looks a little derpy but I can't help it that's what it looks like in the reference D: I'm done with the shields. Now I gotta do the crosses, and I am not looking forward to that one. Gonna bake and paint the shields now because I'mma run out of room on my baking sheet otherwise.

Edit edit: done with baking/painting them and laid them on strands to see how they look- so far so good :3

Yatta! I started super-early, so there's been plenty of time. And it IS costing a lot of $$; probably because I'm so OCD about textures and patterns. But that's ultimately a good thing, it'll all be really well put together in the end.  - w -

Edit: Also, can someone help me find some gold-ish, diamond shaped buttons? I'm totally too lazy to put up the reference right now, but if you look at an upclose picture of miss Telma, her jacket has a sort of raised diamond button. If I can find something at least the right shape, I can just spray-paint them gold. My OCD's getting the better of me again. xP

Ah, I'm so happy right now :D

I basically spent my whole day trying to get my Nino jacket done. I got the whole thing fixed up but it just didn't...look right. I was using a pattern and I kept taking it in, and in again, and it just kept looking like a shitty tent.

I eventually got angry and stopped for awhile. I realized it wasn't fitting right because the arm hole was **** huge. I went and found an old Hoodie I hated and just ripped that up to use as a pattern. I AM SO MUCH HAPPIER WITH THE SECOND ONE. No more for me tonight but tomorrow it will be done.

I can go to bed in peace now.

@Dana @Trumby- YOU GUYS CAN DO IT! I BELIEVE IN YOUUUUUUUU <3
I'm saying this while I have to make 3-4 more costumes myself hahaha.

Well Nino is going pretty good. All I have left is to attach the pockets, the bottom ribbed edge, the zipper, and the 2-3 logo. I think I'll pattern out the shorts tonight, then tomorrow I'm going to Fabric Depot to get the fabric for that.

I also received my boyfriends Scott Pilgrim wig, my Kumatora wig, and my cat contacts for Tsubasa.

Hoping tonight I can get Nino's jacket done, Kumatora's sweater dress thing done, Kumatora's boots, and Kumatora's necklace.

The track jacket is looking reeeaaally good! I love the clean lines.

How does it feel to wear the cat lenses? I hear they're weighted to keep the shape from moving too much.

Meanwhile in my corner of the world I'm hoping to have Czeslaw's jacket done by the end of the week. =)

They feel like my circle lenses. I don't think they are weighted because they still move around a lot. Then again, I only spent $17 dollars on them so that's to be expected. I only wanted them for Tsubasa :P
