The casting stuff I bought got here on Friday. Realized I need some bowls and such for mixing it so I'm just going to get some new tupperware for my kitchen now..lols. Hoping I can start experimenting with this stuff sometime during the week. Starting small by just doing clips (that way my pouches don't look empty!) then moving up to the actual guns.

A lot of my tac gear came this week. Ordered the rest of it from a different place so waiting on that to come in then I'll take some pictures. Yay.

...also I apparently need a scale to weigh the casting stuff (you mix it by weight) so bought one of those and am waiting on it to get here too.

I have depressing news to inform you of. This year has been very hectic for me, with the most recent offense being my car breaking down and costing me my entire cosplay fund to fix. This means that I probably won't be able to be Solid Snake for k-con. Sorry guys

No pics yet, still waiting on the plate carrier, but my first mold is made and waiting for it to set so I can use it. Just a clip first so I don't waste much resin if I do the casting wrong

..though I did buy a gallon of it so I have a lot anyway, haha.

And my shirt is almost done, she told me all she has left is to attach the sleeves. Also bought my boots so now the only thing I need to buy is the balaclava and I don't have to spend anymore money on this costume, yay

Yay, got my plate carrier, belt, and hydration pack Saturday morning before the meetup so didn't have time to get it all together and take pics. But I've got it all good now, home from work and took some pics with my webcam. I'll take some real ones when I get my shirt which should be this week. Those aren't the pants I'm using for the costume, they are just the only thing I have close to that color (the ones I'm using are on the way). Those two large pouches means I have so much space to carry things in this costume

...also I got that badge/ID holder but forgot to put it on and take a picture of it so I'll do that when I get the shirt too.

Can see most of the gear in this one. Pouch on the carrier holds his computer by the looks of wires coming from his keyboard. The other pouches on it are M4 ammo pouches to hold the clips for my assault rifle. Also need to put some velcro on my patch so I can attach it to the carrier.

Forgot to take the tag off my holster, oops! I am going to need to wear a 2nd belt underneath the tac belt to keep my holster up. Also need to take that pouch off the front of it and add some pouches I got to the side of it.

And..honestly, the gear isn't going to be all that hot, it is going to be the shirts we'll be wearing along with the balaclava I'll be wearing. That will definitely make it tough. Good thing for me though, I will have the hydration pack I can use, haha. Either way I don't think we'll have to worry about super hot weather at kcon anyway. It'll probably be really sucky for me at AX though <.<

Also Rhe: Make sure you get the belt at the same time since it is from the same place! I believe you can get everything else for Meryl at the place with the stuff that is a lot cheaper.

Hey guys, in other threads folk are jumpin' on days so since a good few of us are a part of Baccano should we see what day that lands on before deciding MGS? (As well as whatever ya'll have goin' on.)

Well, I think it is pretty much going to be us three deciding on the day, haha. As long as it isn't the same time as Baccano! I'll be fine, as that is the only other gathering I'm doing (unless I do Scott Pilgrim..but that's Friday anyway). Do either of you two have stuff that we need to work around?

Rhe, are you still doing Carol? I see you're not on the confirmed list for Baccano! so just curious.

Also got my boots in the mail earlier this week. Balaclava and shirt are on the way so everything will be done except for the guns here soon!

Aside from MGS and Baccano my only other group is Cave Story. That's also a part of TD so I know it won't interfere with Baccano, at least. And I don't have any days that require costume switching or the like.

What of the costumes in your signature are for Kumoricon, Anthony?

And I can't wait to work on cosplay again! Money is hindering that for the moment.

And...I guess I should update that. The 2nd two aren't really happening. I'm also doing Greedlin instead of normal Lin. The twi'lek is still a go though. Those may be the only new things I do this year, since Johnny has cost quite a bit of money. I'll be wearing those 3 plus Firo. But MGS and Baccano! are the only gatherings I'm doing.

And haha I know what you mean. I even had to stop spending so I can make sure to have enough for everything I'm doing this summer.

Also, we still wanna do some laser tag sometime this summer? Been planning out my summer and weekends work wise and want to try to get things scheduled as best I can. Not going to have a ton of free weekends <.< If we are still interested though, I'll post it up on facebook as an event. Any weekends that would work best for either of you?

Well to be honest, it really isn't my work schedule that is tight nit..I just have a lot of other things I am doing besides work, especially over the next few months. I only have to work 5 weekends out of 13 in the next 3 months (not counting this month). But I also have: Anime Expo, PDXLAN, 501st stuff on one weekend, Celebration V, at least one more kcon meeting, Kumoricon, then maybe Rose City Comic Con the weekend after kcon. Which essentially leaves me with 1 free full weekend

And Ren: not sure about pricing, but ffff if you want to go I'll totally pay for it. Late bday present? Ultrazone's (a place here on the SE side) site is down right now, but there's a place in Beaverton, where it looks like $15 for 3 games if we after 9pm on the weekend. Otherwise each game is $7 so totally worth going after 9.

No problem man, I don't mind at all Also just checked out prices for Ultrazone..looks like every Friday they do a deal from 8pm to midnight unlimited games for $20. So depends on where we want to go and what day.

As for a place to stay...people could totally stay at my place if it is at Ultrazone, since I don't live all that far from there. Though if we did it in Beaverton I'd probably need a place to stay too, haha.

And..not sure. In cosplay would be pretty fun, though probably pretty exhausting. What do you guys think?

I'm still in need of a white blazer for Otacon and might not have it in time? Plus, getting all sweaty in cosplay doesn't sound that great... We could always do a sorta photo op later on though. Training simulations via laser tag, hahaha.

And I don't have an opinion of where to go - I've never done laser tag before. So it's all up to you guys!

Well let's see, most of July doesn't work for me so: July 31st/August 1st weekend? Or August 7/8th? We haven't picked weekends yet for work so I at least can move things around at the moment. I'm planning on having August 21/22nd off as well, for the Kumoricon meeting that weekend so that one works too. Those are my weekends I'll be free in July/August. Plus probably the 18th/19th in September. I'll just make an event on facebook with those first 3 weekends listed and invite a bunch of people and see what happens!

Okay, so, I'm actually having trouble finding a white blazer for Otacon! You'd think that'd be a pretty easy find but they're either way too expensive or somehow not right. Aye.

So I've been looking at this blazer that's now discounted at Old Navy but I'm worried that it's not white enough. They call it "natural". The main reason I haven't been able to decide about this is 'cause they don't have it available in stores so I only have their online store to work off of. =/ What do you guys think?

If it's not white enough... think it could be bleached thoroughly? I've never bleached or removed color from clothing successfully before.

Hmm, I'm curious about that, because it *looks* pretty white to me, but who knows with just going off the picture. As for bleaching and all that..that I could not help with as I have no experience with it :/

How hard would it be to make yourself? Just need to find one that is pretty cheap to use as a pattern really. I don't know enough about sewing to know how hard that'd be <.<

And yeah, I am making silicone RTV molds and casting out of resin. My first attempts came out pretty well (did a pistol magazine), except there were a lot of air bubbles in the mold so I had to fill those in on the casts. I need to get the mold for my pistol made today so it has time to set (takes about 24 hours). The great thing about the resin though is that it sets really quickly. Those mags I did were fully set in about 15 minutes. The only downside is that you only have about 3 minutes from when you start mixing to pour it into the mold, as that is when it starts to set.

I think I need to figure out a different way to do the rifle though, because it is going to use a lot of material and I'm not sure I want to do that for just a once off thing.

I have patterns for blazers already so if I can get fabric on sale it could be cheaper than buying that jacket... I might go ahead and do that. I feel kinda silly now, forgetting that usually making stuff is cheaper than purchasing it, haha!

Anthony, I'd be curious to see how those molds and resin casts turn out 'cause I'm wanting to make a mold of a small accessory I have but all the different types of molds and casts are very confusing. Much more of a hands on learner, I am. =)

And The mags came out pretty decently, need to do a little fixups before I paint them, but nothing too bad. I need to figure out how to keep the air bubbles out of the rubber for the mold so it doesn't end up in the cast. THe bottom side of the cast is not nearly as clean as the top side because of that.

I forgot to take pictures before I put the glue on, but I'll take pictures of the gun when I get it cast if you want. Or you could just see the stuff next time you're up here

From what I've heard to keep air bubbles from forming in your mold, aside from having one of those super weird yet awesome machines that I can't remember the name of... ya gotta not stir vigorously when mixing, pour your mold in a small stream (drizzle?), and to let the rubber just fill in as it wants as you're pouring rather than direct it with movement.

And next time I'm up there I definitely wanna check it out. =) Pictures are awesome though, too.

Oh, also, just saw this in a video but tapping the sides of the mold to release air bubbles might help?

Yeah, I let this 2nd mold sit longer to let the air bubbles escape before I put the gun in so hopefully that part helped. I pretty much did all that stuff and it still happened so I may need an actual whisk or something to mix it with. As far as tapping it..yeah that works to a degree, but this is a pretty large mold so that wouldn't have worked with this one. With a smaller mold it would definitely though

In all the videos I've seen people used spatulas to mix. I also remember someone saying never to use an electronic mixer. I don't think a non-mechanical whisk would have any negative effects. =)

How much does the silicone you've been buying cost? And how much of it is there?
