Russia's one of the taller characters anyway. A little extra height is only for the good.
I'd recommend looking for these or something similar on Zappos, 'cause they've got that awesome free shipping plus 365 days to return shoes thing going on.

You've been rendered unto the list, sir.

I thank you kindly. ;)

@Fuyuko
I know, right? The price is awesome. I'm already 5'10" so the heel will, I dunno, really give me the edge? Too bad short hair looks awful on me.

God, all the Russia's need a group shot under a "BECOME ONE WITH RUSSIA" banner.

Apparently the staff are really against having it again this year. But several people (myself included) are attempting to convince the Ouran Host Club to host it, since their tea party isn't going to work out so well this year.

Even if there isn't a masquerade, me Hashi and Malaria will still wear our masquerade outfits one night and just have our own mini masquerade I suppose. XD Not that I've talked about this with them, but I still plan to wear Mafitalia S.Italy, with or without the masquerade.

I'm not giving up our masquerade outfits. They're adorable.

If there's no masquerade, I'll sweep ladies through hallways. Like a proper Italian gentleman.

WHY are they against it? It's a popular enough event...
(what happened to the tea party...?)

YES WE WILL JUST HAVE TO HAVE OUR OWN.

I don't know what I'm gonna do for masquerade this year. WE'LL SEE.
I COULD DO A FANCY VESER AND BE A PROPER SHARKY GENT.

@Malaria: If you mask is blue, it still works cuz N.Italy's uniform is blue, therefore it is a color associated with him.

@Felix: Here's the thread: http://www.kumoricon.org/forums/index.php?topic=12608.0
The Host Club isn't doing tea this year because it's too much hassle with the hotel I believe, so whatever they end up doing won't be a "tea" party. I'm not a part of the club, though, so I have no idea what their actual plans are. I just think they'd do a marvelous job with the masquerade. : D

Yeah, it's sad that they're not having it...I BLAME THE GOD DAMNED HOTEL!!!!!
Anywhos, we should totally get a giant group who wanted the Masque. and just dance through the hallways ^^
And if it's nice enough and not freezing, we should totally go out to Pioneer Square and have a dance.

Hmm, Pioneer Square might work, though it wouldn't be much fun if it was raining and we all got drenched. We'd also have to make sure it's available. They often have events going on there.

MAYBE I WILL COME TO THE HETALIA MEETUP AS STEAMPUNKLAND.

Actually, if the weather permits, having a flash masquerade in Pioneer Square would be really cool. Or we could at the Waterfront, but same problem with longer distance. PSU has a park behind it that would be nice, too, but once again the rain.

Dude. If any of the Waterfront park fountains were on, those would make for some truly inspiring photos.
If you get a little farther into the park blocks, there are some areas with some tree cover, so if we only have some light sprinkling and it's not too chilly, those could work. But if it pours like it did last year, that'd be no go. But if it gets too late we won't have much in the way of light. ._.

@Felix: Doooooo iiiiiiittt~ 8D

As long as we get awesome Mafitalia group photos, I'll be happy, even if no actual Masquerade dancing ends up happening. I think the first block of park blocks would be good, cuz it's open and more well-lit than the other blocks. If it's raining even a little, I say no to going outside at all, just because of the masks. >>

I don't know how well my papier mache would hold up in the rain... I sealed it pretty well with paint, but I think just my sweat was starting to make it a little mushy... My mask this year will probably be papier mache as well because I like it when it fits my face and I am lacking proper mask-making means.

The masquerade is very related cuz we're cosplaying Hetalia to it. We even made costumes specifically FOR the masquerade. I will be very sad if it gets completely canceled and no one else picks it up. : (

HOW DO YOU ALWAYS HAVE SO MANY PAPERS VALERIA?
YOU HAVE MORE THAN ME AND I'M AT UNI.
...though on the bright side next year will be a breeze for you.

THIS IS WHY WE WILL MAKE OUR OWN MINI-MASQUERADE IF THEY DON'T.
we can sit around like the cool people we are and scoff at the con that is too lame to have a masquerade.

I'll pretend that applies to me as well even though I'm not cosplaying Hetalia for the masquerade. uhh. of course sharkygentland and steampunkland are real countries. 8D;

On a Mafitalia note, I was at the Buffalo Exchange on Hawthorne and saw they had black suspenders for around $7. I heard they might have them for cheaper at Value Village, so I'm gonna have to check that first.

My friend got her red contacts from her Optometrist. Might be a good idea to start there. Other than that, this seems to be a popular site: http://www.cosplaylab.com/proshop/mindseye.asp

And while I forgot who it was, there was a contact booth at Sakuracon. You can see if you can track them down. I remember that they had the same selection as Cosplaylab.

I'd like to buy the contacts, too, but those are so expensive. We'll see what happens. If I buy violet contacts, too, I can always make a Sanzo cosplay afterwards :)

Saki: I know a lot of people use colorlens4less.com.

Lychee: How charming. -aristocrat face- But seriously, awesome job on the scarf.

To avoid cluttering the photoshoot thread: we're not entirely sure about location yet. While it would be cool to have a shoot at Pioneer Square, Saturday is always a busy day, especially if the weather's nice. I'm not sure we could make that many people get out of our way just so we can have a shoot there. There's also a huge likelihood that we'd end up photobombed by douche teenagers and hipsters and street preachers.

We're also planning a second shoot for Sunday, since Hetalia fandom has grown so much. Two shoots will hopefully bring down the size of each individual shoot.

Malaria, you're so smart. Pioneer Square seemed good just because we could get a lot of people there and get a picture of everyone without having to cover people up. Another good alternative would be Waterfront. It's pretty and all.

There's also the park next to the Hilton that we can use. There's an obelisk in it, and we could have some people stand on that for a group shot. I'm trying to think in terms of numbers first and then useful location for individual shots, that sort of thing.

But because we are dealing with numbers, I wanted something for us down on the books first. That way the smaller shoots people can go to can work around that? I'm trying not to be conceited with this...

I see what you're thinking. Last time, we were gonna go with the Fountain Plaza at the Park Blocks, because it's easy to find and the long concrete sides/benches would make a good second level to put people on. The giant concrete obelisk would also be a pretty good place. We took some derp shots there last year, actually. XD

There are some areas of the Waterfront with the levels to accommodate a big shoot, but again that's a really big people-ful area on a people-ful weekend.

Yeah, it would be good to get a time listed just so we don't have to narrowly fit between other peoples' shoots. That is a whole lotta no-fun.

I vote we try for the Fountain Plaza in the Park Blocks again, weather permitting. If the weather decides to screw us over again, I think we should find out what the con policy is this year with indoor photoshoot space. I've heard that after last year's craziness, they were going to try to work something out, but I could be wrong. >>

Don't you love being partly responsible for drastic policy changes? >>
Of course I have permission to have a shoot in this large hallway, Mr. Yojimbo.

This image amuses me greatly

Also, as far as indoor shoots go, Pioneer Square Mall does have some pretty fountains and sculptures in it. Once again, crowded though. There's also the sky bridge, but I don't know if there's a max person limit to that.

If allowed, the Multnomah County Library would be a good place. It's quiet and the lobby is very large. We'd all have to be really quiet, though. Maybe go to a floor that's low on people? Might be troublesome for the librarians, though. That would be best for small groups.

Worst comes to worst we can all make umbrellas with our respective flags on them.

Pioneer Place does not allow pictures or videos inside the mall, and yeah it'd be ridiculously crowded on Labor Day weekend. It's also absolutely impossible to keep a group of 60+ people quiet and organized when we're all having a bunch of fun, so no library. It would be good for small shoots, though. Not to nix all your ideas right off the bat, but yeah. XD Our best bet for an indoor backup space will be somewhere inside the con itself, and that requires waiting on whatever policy changes might be coming. :1

It looks like all of the really big shoots last year like Naruto, Bleach, FF, etc were all held either at Pioneer Square, or Fountain Plaza which is what we tried for last year, and the weather decided otherwise. I don't know if any of those other big shoots rearranged for the weather. Does anyone know if they did, and if so where they went?

Both the FF shoot and the Naruto shoot just stayed outside though it only rained a little bit during the ff shoot and not at all during the Naruto one (it was insanly cold though ><;)

One lucky thing to Hetalia is really the materials for the cosplay seem like they're mainly cotton of some sort. If they did get wet, chances are it wouldn't be like satin where they got ruined.

The other thing is at least there's no really obvious makeup with weird colors or anything. Once again, if rain did occur, or a misting, then it wouldn't make a huge difference other than slightly smeared foundation and maybe some mascara running a bit. Not left at the alter bad, just bit.
