Ah, the dub. I'm actually really enjoying it. I think the reason why is that it doesn't have the feel of a traditional dub. It's almost as if they went "Y'know, we're never going to truly please such an already developed fanbase with a 'translate-and-record' dub, so let's just go crazy with it."

It almost gives off that affectionate parody/abridged series feel. Sure it's probably not going to make an impact on my head-canon, but I'm gonna have a heck of a lot of fun watching it.

Lychee: The dub's more insensitively racist than the original, I think. Instead of the nations being dumb but fundamentally good-intentioned, they poke at each other's open wounds with full awareness of what they're doing.

Well, this is Japanese insults we're talking about. Chances are they're very bad and just don't seem like it to us since we're, well, Americans.

I don't think the voices going from the sub to the dub are comparable. The dub took advantage of having an audience used to "foreign" accents and gave every character their stereotypical accent. In the Japanese, they all spoke correct, native Japanese.

Personally i feel a little bad towards the hetalia voice actors because now everytime they go to con, they probably are going to have to speak in accent to appease fans xD

Honestly, I like mostly everyone's voice in the dub except for China's and maybe Austria's. In the sub China's voice sounds deep and pleasant (even though it's done by a woman) but in the sub, it sounds more...shrill and less pleasant 
 IMO I think the racist accents make the jokes a little more humorous for me.

The voice acting in Baccano! was godly. like seriously. It's the first time I  have ever liked the dub more that the subbed.

Hooray, this post has a definite 'and now for something completely different' feel to it (to me anyway), considering the recent discussion of dubbing.  Just another progress update thingy (yes, 'thingy' is a very scientific term, right?).

Netherlands: Got the jersey altered appropriately, just waiting on the wig; according to UPS it should arrive this Tuesday.  Now I come to the point where I realize, thanks to the costume having shorts, that there's a discrepancy between myself and Holland.  Namely that I've got hairy legs, while Holland certainly does not from what I can tell.  So yes, this means I'm a guy doing Hetalia cosplay, for what that's worth.  So the question is: does the hair there stay or go?  Fun times.

DPRK: Just need to attach the home-made collar tabs and this is 100% finished.  I also discovered I have a Soviet army cap amongst my costume pieces, and thought maybe it would be appropriate.  On the other hand, it's clearly Russian (to me) so maybe it stays at home.

On a side note, as soon as I have my Netherlands wig, I will get pictures of both my cosplays.. or attempt to.  Got a friend with a digital camera, but not sure when/if they're available this week and next.  Which got me thinking about the Spain/Holland pairing for photoshoot, and then a tangent about how for some reason Holland's spiky hair reminds me of Ivan Drago (evil Russian boxer in Rocky IV), and how I'll probably be taller than any Spains we have (I'm 6'0 or 6'1")... and now for some reason a stare-down between the two, with Netherlands looking all 'I must break you' is absolutely hilarious to me.  Maybe in light of that Dutch player kicking the Spanish guy in the chest during the final.  Streams of consciousness are bizzare things, aren't they?

I think they sell that potato fabric at Fabric Depot. Pretzel fabric would also be good for Germany. 

Hey, guys, if you need a flag to represent your country, there's a flag shop with all the mini flags of the world in it and a few larger country flags. It's about three blocks from the Lloyd Center Movie Theater right next to Applebee's. It's really fantastic. Belarus actually changed it's flag recently, and they still had the older green and red version. My friend bought one. Cost $3.25 for the small flag.

You can buy some at the Things from Afar shop at Lloyd center mall or Clackamas Mall, but no guarantees as to their stock.

Malaria: Yes! You guys do eat an enormous amount of cucumber! Not that that's a bad thing, but I've never really seen anything like it. At least with my beau. He's got a two cucumber per day ratio going on steady for the past few months. His mom makes this awesome tomato and cucumber salad with onion and sunflower seed oil. I could easily eat it ever day.

And I never thought I'd be sick of potatoes, but I've had moments.

Today I had the most awesome Russian food for lunch it was so delicious. Tomorrow, tortellini! Yay!

Hey, did I mention I've bought new boots for Russia? My previous ones were too girly. These ones are much better looking.

I LOVE Cucumber and have been known to eat a whole cucumber in one sitting.

One of these days I'm going to give myself a break, sit in front of the television, and just knit. That's it. I'm almost done through the first double skein of yarn, and as soon as I'm mostly through the second one, my Russian scarf will be long enough. Yay!

All I have to do for him now is just the scarf and the cuffs for the boots as soon as those arrive.
