What Pokemon is Tom?
« on: October 24, 2009, 05:12:42 am »
I was gonna make a poll but I don't wanna have to go through all the different posibilities. I'll make a poll if there's not a perfect answer. I am basically looking for costumes where I won't have to shave or cut my hair so something involving a mask is perfect.

I'm going to cosplay a pokemon at Kumoricon 2010 due to popular demand. Which one though?

I love Psiduck. That's definitely going to be on the short list once I make a poll.
I might do Farfetch'd if Jaz lets me borrow her giant leek. I don't feel like a farfetch'd though.
I think I'd call myself Tomgepi if I cosplay'd Togepi.
As far as the Bidoof....well I'd rather be a Bibarel.

Snorlax is a bit to much of a "fatguy pokemon". I mean I'm comfortable with my tummy but he's a little too much. Blastoise is awesome but I feel I should be taller for a famous one like that. I'm fine with the others though, I'm not going to try and pass myself off as a Vulpix or Hitmonchan.

Oh, and MISSINGNO is RIGHT OUT!  >:(

I deffinetely must concur with the idea of a.....

MUNCHLAX!!!

I think it'd be an epic costume, and with a good skill in face paint, completely plausible..

But for your scruff... might I suggest the very rarely found.... MALE VULPIX???

infact so rare I couldn't find an image for it... sad day huh?

Settle down guys, I'm going to wait for a few more people to give ideas before I put up the actual poll itself. I need to research each Pokemon's attacks and style before I add them to the final list. I have to be able to BATTLE in this cosplay.

Maybe a fairly obvious answer to my question but you never know so:
Will you be doing Ginjinka or a mascot version?

I know most people would think it's a stupid question but I asked this random adult who was talking about Code Geass with me and a friend on the Transit home today and he said he went as Snorlax one year as the mascot version, not Ginjinka. So you never know, ya?

I do not know the difference. Can someone show me Ginjinka versions? Maybe some cosplays at Kumoricon or other conventions.

I'll do my part and go check google.

@XCTHULUX
Corsola and Tangrowth are girls. Venonat is too chibi.
The rest I could do.

OK, I see. It's an anthropomorphized version of the pokemon in question.

I guess it might depend on the pokemon that eventually wins this little poll and how cool the Ginjinka looks.

[/nod] But asside from official Ginjinka photos, one can alter them. Most Ginjinka tend to be female but you can find some Ginjinka fan art of them as male. Just check out photobucket for the poke`mon that wins because there are a lot of different outfits you can find for certain ones as well as both genders. Some you won't find anything but it just depends. [/shrug]

i totally designed my gengar myself.
i will post pics soon, as its almost done.

its not really anthromorph as you said tom, as you are technically still supposed to be human. its supposed to look like you are dressing up as the pokemon, or wearing clothes that look like parts of the pokemon, but still look like clothes.

It really depends on how far you push the anthropomorphism. Technically if you anthropomorphize something enough it is just a human that reflect the original thing in behavior rather than in a physical way. The Ginjinka still have the attitude of whatever Pokemon their clothing is reminiscent of, right?

personally, i don't like to be in character when i cosplay, i would rather look like the character, and have my personality.

that being said, people who can successfully cosplay in character are awesome.

i still don't see it as anthromorphic, because when i think of anthromorphic, i think of half animal, half human.
or animals with human traits

See to me that's just wearing funny clothes. I don't feel like I'm cosplaying unless I'm a little bit in character. I don't walk around talking like Mario all the time but I'm major into roleplaying and acting in the first place so once I figure out the pokemon I'm cosplaying I'll do a bunch of research into how to act.

Mostly though it's just about learning how to say the name in the right voice.

Slowking does look much more awesome than slowbro. I dig the crown.

I'm going to start looking up info on my top picks.
I was going to put 3 in the final poll but I think it'll end up being 4 or 5 since there are some clear leaders.
I was hoping other people would comment as well but maybe not everyone is familiar enough with pokemon.

@NightLotus
Snorlax is right out then, that's all yours. I suppose I should got through the other threads and see who else is doing which pokemon. I don't want overlap with this costume. Munchlax might be fun if I can follow you guys around and cause trouble.  ;D

Slaking? He's kinda ugly but I guess I wouldn't mind being a gorilla.
I can't really use my real hair for Flareon, it's growing out brown and will only be about half blonde by the time next con rolls around. Flareon is one of those best left to the fit and the fabulous.
