No... "borderlands" is a term that suggests uninhabited (in this case, uninhabitable) terrain, spawned from when society lived in small, clustered settlements, and areas near the borders were infested with bandits and dangerous wildlife.

Given that, Borderlands is the most suitable name imaginable for this game.

Google. ;]  I'm not going to Google it myself because I don't care, but if you want to know if it's cross-platform, there's no reason not to type "Borderland video game" into a search engine and find out. :P

Zack, get this game with the quickness.  I've been playing it at Blaze's.  One of the more engaging shooters I've played.  I don't really see it being solidly competitive, but definitely fun, and fairly challenging.  Collecting new weapons and looting is probably the most enjoyable feature of this game for me.  Kind of reminiscent of Diablo 2's magic weapons; almost all the weapons are variations from a handful of base models.  The weapon detailing is impressive too; weapons tend to look very unique, even weapons that are statistically the same.

Haven't watched TV in a few weeks (months?  Hell if I keep track), so I haven't seen the commercials, but I've heard that they're, uh, interesting?  Nobody's actually taken the time to explain to me what it is about the commercials that makes them startling/amusing/whatever. :/

Okay, so my roomie and I have been playing through this game at the rate of a couple hours every night, and it's getting increasingly more enjoyable as we go.

The reason?

WEAPONS.

Here's what I'm using right now:

-Sniper-
377 damage
93.7 accuracy
0.7 fire rate
6 ammo capacity
2.7x weapon zoom

-Revolver-
81x7 damage
88.1 accuracy
1.2 fire rate
2 ammo capacity
3.7x weapon zoom

-Shotgun-
145x12 damage
19.2 accuracy
can't remember fire rate
2 ammo capacity (why would I need more?  2 crits with this = ~22,000 damage)
2.3x weapon zoom

-SMG-
39x4 damage
79.x accuracy
8.3 fire rate
42 ammo capacity

And the class mod I'm using gives +48% accuracy and +66% crit damage.

In other words, when I pull triggers, things die.

EVERYWHERE. :D

where is this?

That is the awesome game shop in downtown Salem.
Kumoricon has meetings there sometime.

I'm gonna have to pick up a copy of Borderlands when I have money.
I wish I could bear to part with some games and get store credit. I love my old games too much to let them go.

Guys, how do I convince Vallie that she'd want to buy this game? She has more money and I've got her hooked on increasing her gamerscore but she's not a twitch gamer. I haven't ever been able to sell her on an FPS.

Ohhhh, Borderlands. My brother went as Nine Toes for Hallowe'en and I spent six hours SIX HOURS on that mask. And now I'm trying to convince him we should go as Mordecai and Lilith to Sakuracon because damn these characters crack me up.

But dude this game. This GAME. I did get tired of Lilith's constant "HAHAHA I'M REALLY GOOD AT THIS" but other than that it was thoroughly enjoyable.

The image fails to disclose that this gun fires nine projectiles. It is my friend and I love it so, because if four or five projectiles hit, the actual damage dealt is in the range of 400 - 500, but that the enemy is taking 7,000 - 8,000 corrosive damage per second.

EDIT: There was something else special about this gun that made it worth around $14000, but I'm too lazy to open Borderlands to find out.

I never really got into the corrosive weapons, but that gun is pretty much the Borderlands equivalent of my favourite character build in Diablo 2.  20 points in each poison spell, corpse explosion, and decrepify, and put the bonus points that you get into bone shield.  Basically, run into a group of enemies, decrepify them, poison nova a couple times, stab the biggest one, then run away.  When the big one dies, blow it up to kill the rest.

I'm still using my shotgun that deals 145x11 damage with a 2.7 fire rate.  It only holds two bullets, but "quick hands" fixes that problem.

It crits as high as 45k at point-blank.

Nope.  That one was actually a little weaker, and quite a bit less accurate.  Lower fire rate too. :P

Also, I'm in love with the Double Anarchy line of SMG's.  Excellent for mowing down Brutes, and one or two of the bullets almost always crit.

edit: btw, that's 1 or 2 per bullet (damage is 79x4), at 8.3 bullets per second and 56 per clip. :>

The expansion's pretty fun, but gives off a feeling of being kind of incomplete.  Also, it seems like they meant to release it on Halloween, and just missed some deadlines or something.  The theme is pretty ridiculously prominent.

I like the fact that my sniper rifle is able to obliterate all but the toughest zombies with a good shot to the head (most human enemies take two to five shots even with over 500 damage and 400% on crit).  The midget zombies and zombie psychos are kind of ridiculous though.

corrosive weapons work wonders against the Crimson Lance.  I used to use lots of Double Anarchys, but lately I use more elemental weapons on my siren.

I'm not sure if I'm getting the DLC though.

Nice.  I presume you have the full bonus to elemental damage (diva?), bonus to fire damage (spark?), and the class mod that stacks on both of those skills?

Combustion Hellfire and Double Anarchy SMG's dominate.

That's the same line/skillset my Roommate's been using lately.  I also gave him a "Hard Volcano" line sniper that I found which deals around 5000 on a crit at level 44 (vs same level) between all of our bonuses.  If I recall correctly he also has a rocket launcher and a shotgun, but rarely has any reason to use them.

This is off-topic.

But seriously, games don't make a gamer hardcore.  The gamer makes the gamer hardcore.  A real hardcore gamer can take any game seriously.  Ever played peggle?  As a hardcore TBS player, I can take that game seriously (yes, even peggle) as an abstract strategy game.  A hardcore gamer breaks every rule, pushes every boundary, and learns every minute detail of a game to make it bend to his will.

That said, playing Borderlands does not automatically classify you into an particular subclassification of gamers.  It doesn't even make you a gamer.  Popping off 10 headshots with a revolver in five seconds no-scope makes you a gamer.

If you want to talk about this further (which I don't advise, because if ha~ma sees a conversation like this, he's gonna trump everyone here), make a new topic for it.  Otherwise, I start deleting posts to get this thread back on topic.
