Audio Converter?
« on: November 11, 2009, 09:22:48 am »
Does anyone know a good program that I could download for converting audio files(ex. wma -> mp3)? Preferably something that I can get from filehippo or the like as I don't trust strange webites...also FREE would suite my needs best. I am not a super computer genius either, just know enough to get by, so something that isn't too complicated to use would be nice. Anyone? Help?

How about just using Itunes?

Would that be easy/convienient? A lot of people have it and it's pretty simple to
convert .wav to .mp3 from Itunes because it has a set in Encoder.

http://www.wellesley.edu/Computing/Idocs/Itunes/convertMP3.html

Scroll down to the bottom of this page, you will see the easy step by step method
for converting .wav's after you have added them to your itunes library. This will
change the file type from .wav to .mp3 so note that if you have it as a short cut or
on Windows Media player, it may not recognize the file anymore.

Hope this helps

I don't have an iPod so I have never had iTunes on my computer to know anything about it... Thanks for the responses guys, I will try these options out when I get home from work later & see which works best for me.

Look up any video converter on google. Or AVC. Not only does it do video but I think it does audio too!

Completely against my purpose for posting...if I wanted to just google then download a possible virus or garbage program, I am plenty capable of doing so without advice. My question only pertained to those who use or have used a program that they trust & feel can meet my needs without compromising an expensive tool used in my everyday life. Please only post a response if you have relevant information pertaining specifically to the question above(ie. the thread topic), rather than just to increase your number of posts...

this was a dumb answer. but I think they ^ already informed you of that!

on another note: When I'm doing audio stuff I use garage band because my computer came with it, and its not that bad at all. The only problem with audacity is that it is very track happy ;;>_>

Meh...I use AVC and trust it. It's free and good.

0_0 It has no viruses. Trust me. I have Kaspersky.

Oh yeah, when you jerks tell someone to "check the website" when it comes to a Kumoricon question you're all holier than though but when somebody says to use Google you get all uppity.
You're such jerks.

Also, he did make a suggestion. AVC is a program right?

I usually burn files to a CD with windows media player and then rip the same cd to mp3.
I usually do this with itunes albums.

You're all hyper about locking threads too. WTF?

foobar2000 (Wikipedia, official site)

This is a combination player/transcoder/ripper/library/CD writer.

It has no eye candy, so is usually popularly ignored, but it's favored by technical audio enthusiasts. The project is the spiritual successor to Winamp and started thriving around the time Winamp stopped focusing on quality and started focusing on eye candy, marketing with strange version numbers, and needlessly forking into different versions (losing many of its features in the process).

It is extremely feature-filled, well-organized, and has a huge focus on quality (I have virtually never encountered bugs in it). Strongly recommended.

Definitely recommended preferentially over Audacity, iTunes, and SUPER (have used all of these), if you want to use it for audio conversion (obviously, some of those programs are specialized in other areas--SUPER for video, for example--though there are much better video conversion programs than SUPER...).
