That movie was soooooooooooooooooooo epic. If you haven't seen it, go see it; if you have seen it, go see it again, and again, and again, until you puke from the awesomeness of it.  ;)

Blew my mind. Not just the visuals, but the shamanistic and animistic and ecological principles. Very Miyazake esque in that regard.

You gotta see it in the theater in full focus 3d. Unless you have a nice 3D TV at home....

I'll go see Dances With Smurfs eventually.

Saw it in 3d and 2d

Not worth the extra money to see it in 3d IMO (I snuck in both times with 3D glasses lol)

LOOK AT THIS CRAP! Dx

http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/hmg-avatar-hidden-messages.html

I really don't see why this is something that's necessarily "bad". There are a lot of movies that send messages to their audiences, whether they're "hidden", or not. The supposed message in Avatar reguarding the environment is something we as people should be aware of, anyway.

Wouldn't really call it a hidden message, James Cameron spells it out with such blunt clarity it really felt like he assumed his audience would be too stupid to get what he's trying to say with the movie.

The movie is visually stunning in 3D and a lot of fun to watch but you definitely have to check the analytical part of your brain at the door because if you start thinking about it you realize just how shallow a lot of the characters and story are.

Yeah... don't you hate it when people bludgeon you with religion?
The last time I was flooded with all the 'Gaia' / Living Mother Earth stuff was when I saw the Final Fantasy movie.
Personally I also avoided Miyazaki's Mononoke Hime because I had already been over-saturated with his annoying 'green' proselytizing in Nausicaa.

For me - I will not be seeing 'Avatar,' because I don't believe the premise.

Notable Quotes:

"In Avatar, James Cameron has created a world that justifies the smug arrogance and bitter alienation of the radical environmentalist."

"The alien Na’vi really are what infantile liberal mythology has made of the American Indian: innocent, peace-loving, simple, and so harmonious with nature that they can literally plug it into their pony tails."

"The [...] environmentalist daydream of a 'perfect' society, sustainably at peace with Mother Nature, is captured in the image of the Na’vi tribe snuggled in hammock-like leaves, embraced by the vast branches of their goddess tree. No ambitions, no failures, no questions, no achievement, no future."

Yeah... I did say that. Then I saw it. No I'm in love with it.

I Did the same thing... I did NOT want to see this movie, I thought it looked hoakey and poorly written. And the blue people bugged me a lot.

Then my dad bought me a ticket for the midnight showing in 3D....

AND I HEARTED THIS MOVIE SO MUCH [/caps lock]

I do recommend anyone to go see it, it is like Fern Gully: The last rainforest with action of the live type and a director who knows how to keep people from realizing they just spent 2:40 in a uncomfortable seat.

These are the movies that make me miss being a supervisor for regal theaters... Getting in free to IMAX3d at Bridgeport... ah... you are greatly missed.

I DID like the movie a lot, but I have to disagree about the movie distracting from the lack of comfort in the theater seats. We have padded seats that rock back and forth a bit, like most theaters. But near the end of the movie, I was having a real problem concentrating on the awesomeness.

Two thumbs up for the movie, though. Who doesn't like seeing the human race as the malevolent species we really are?
.... and then paying for it ~_^

The best thing about Avatar is that it imagines a world where a program to breed Thundercats with Smurfs has been successful. SCIENCE!
