Er...yah I totally spaced it's not just a new YEAR but a new DECADE holy cripes.
What is everyone doing for it?
Anything besides M.E.W.?
Anything in Eugene???
What were you doing at the turn of the millenium?
I went to a party then a jacuzzi in a hotel suite (those were the days).
No clue for this year, my roommate's working an overnight shift & I have to pick him up at 7 am as there's no public transit in Eugene on 1/1....might hop up for M.E.W. on 1st before moving on 2nd....unless it will be sold out??

Actually, the next new decade doesn't start until January 1, 2011. This is because there is no year 0.

Erm... Perhaps you should verse yourself in math again Jeff. January 1st 2000 to January 1st 2010 is 3653 days, and when you take away the three vestigial February 29ths you get 3650 days. That's 365x10, which means that the first day of 2000 to the first day of 2010 is, in fact, ten years and therefore a decade.

The previous decade didn't start at Jan. 1, 2000. It started at Jan. 1, 2001. Therefore, adding 10 years (however you want to represent that in days, years, whatever)... you get Jan. 1, 2011.

Actually you don't have to subtract for the February 29th. There are actually 365.25 365.24219^[1] days in a year in relation to the earth going around the sun.

And yes, Jeff is correct. There is no 0 year in a decade, only a 1st through 10th.

You know, it just reoccurred to me that, as such, the Gregorian Calendar is only 99.933691% accurate (using a standard of 8 significant figures), meaning that once every 1508 years, we deviate a day off of the actual tropical year.

And, because it's actually once every 1508.1591 years, there's an additional margin of error represented every eon or so.

wouldn't whatever the beginning of the calculation of time, until the completion of an orbit, constitute year 0, celebrated by an anniversary that says "woo hoo now this 'verse is one year old" & the start of year 1? Like how human age is calculated (again, a subjective choice, varying across cultures and religions more than one might think).

Separately...still kinda clueless what I'll be doing.

Ok, so I went to this one hotel and plugged in the PS3 and it wouldn't work.

So we got room service with a better T.V. IT STILL WOULDN'T WORK.

The last day of our stay our friend came over and did it. WE FINALLY FOUND OUT HOW TO FREAKING RESET IT!!! OH MAN! THAT PISSED ME OFF....

Because the Catholic Church made the calender, which is likely 7-9 years off anyway, and started at 1?

I don't know why people got so worked up over the year 2000.  Even with the 'Millenium Bug', what many people didn't understand was that machines also calculate forward.  The NYE before 1997 and 1998 were the big years of risk of failure of our financial systems due to counting bugs.  Anything with ATMs, banks or stock markets would have happened on those New Years.

More amusing than the fact that everyone was afraid that all the financial systems would outright FAIL and computers would cease to function in 2000 (even programs that couldn't change the first digit could have been easily patched to do so) is the fact that there are HTML bugs that will cause the date when an item was submitted to appear as December 31st, 1969.  AKA the year that ARPANET was invented (presumably the earliest yearstamp that some feature of the internet can identify), along with the last day of the gregorian calendar.
