Better pre-register.
« on: January 10, 2010, 08:07:29 pm »
I just read the newsletter and I found out that they are only going to have 3500 total weekend passes (including both reg and pre-reg) and after that they will have 500-1000 day passes so it will be a good idea to pre-reg as soon as possible. In the newsletter it also said that they got close to the 3500 pre-registration in 2009. So just some fair advice to everyone else, register asap to make sure you have a weekend pass.

I'll be doing the same as Shay. If I don't get in, well then I guess I'll just be coming and chilling out for meetups outside. I'm already considering doing that as to not waste money.

This!

I'll be going to my first Sakuracon this year, so I won't be completely torn up if I don't make it to K-con. Plus school will be starting around that time anyways, so I might just not be able to go. XD Hence Sakuracon.

The whole point of the registration cap is to REDUCE crowding... so if thats what you
are worried about, we are basically taking the convention down about 1,000 people...
which should alleviate a good deal of congestion for those able to register.

I totally recomend everyone still come and have a good time, even if just for sunday or
something! We want to see all your smiling faces!

that's a good idea. it's a shame that we'll be losing some people, but it'll be such a relief to have less people over all.
can't wait for next year! I'm gonna try and attend more panels this time around.

Tempted to do Sakuracon but that all depends on how things go financially and life-wise.

Kumoricon I'm definitely participating in and I'll try to pre-register as soon as possible.
I don't think they're going to reach the limit THIS soon.  Come July or so, I'd start to get worried.

I personally think it is a good idea. Seeing how there were too many people last year for the hotel I really like that they are going to have a lower cap.

I'll probably register around the same time I usually do, maybe a little sooner, depending on how I feel at the moment. :P
If I make it to KumoriCon than great, if I don't, oh well no biggie. I'll be hitting the Star Wars Celebration V this year anyway, which is only a month or two before KumoriCon, so I may not have the money to hit KCon anyway. And at this point, SWC5 is much more important to me than KCon... SWC happens once every four years, KCon happens every year.

So I'll just see what happens, I guess. :)

Hey there all!

So just a few things... we're currently sitting around 500 registrations. I'd get y'all the exact number, but I'm out of state currently and not at the reg office ><

We will be at Sakuracon accepting registrations on site, so if you can't register online, this is a great way to go.

We will be putting up a bit more information very soon on the registration page (it's on the agenda for the next bi-weekly reg party (double parenthesis are awesome... and yes, it is a party! We do regy things, but we have music, fun, and sometimes table top games ^^)) this includes a "progress bar" that will keep the registration total posted, current to the count at the end of each reg party.

I'll keep a better eye on this thread so I can answer any questions that pop up.

I dunno. I have mixed feelings about capping. I think it limits us a lot more than usual. I mean, I understand that with the hilton, that's just what has to happen. But really, I hate having to tell people that they might cap this year. Possible first timers get turned away later on because they're not even sure if they should come if that's the case.

Its the hard position we are in right now. We have no fiscal way of expanding to the
unlimited, or overly unsaturated level without bankrupting the convention and putting
it in jeopardy of not happening again. (Even at that, I don't even know if it's possible
to do then.) It's either too much or not enough. And I look at it as a quality over
quantity issue now.

We can't do a GIANT convention to appease the maximum number of people who want
to go. What we CAN do is provide the most people who can attend with the best experience.

At least, thats what I want to try and do.

We have actually capped in a couple of different years.  We will open up each day to as many day badges as possible.  I hope that people who don't make it on Sat or Sun, do drop by on Monday.  Monday tends to have less people and be cheaper than other days.  Even though it's not a full day, it still has big events like Cosplay Chess, Charity Auction and Closing Ceremonies.

I really don't like the capping idea, mainyl because it means quite a lot of good cosplayers wont be able to make it and it puts a strain on people to pre register quickly when they still need to get the cash..But I understand it has to be done for the attendees and staffs sake.

I'm taking 6 people with me so I have to make sure we all get pre registered soon....Looks like I'll have to find a 2nd job. -w-; But it'll be worth it.

Well, i prereg'ed and got my badge a couple days ago.  By looking at the number, if thats an indicator of how many badges there have been made, then mine is a hundred or so shy of 1,000. Glad to have my badge, though. ^^
