HipHop/Rap
« on: January 31, 2010, 12:57:54 am »
Yo, Jeff, don't lock this thread, it's relevant and stuff, y'know what I'm sayin'?

I love Rap/Hiphop! I'm pretty sure the sort of rap I like isn't "real" gangster or whatever but it's so awesome.

Right now I can't stop listening to R. Kelly's Trapped in the Closet, it's sooo ridiculous :D

Please discuss your favorite rap/hiphop/gangster music, culture, anecdotes, etc~

Word.

I remember on the way up to Kumo '08, you, Colleen and I were singing Smack That.

I'm listening to Dangerous by Akon if that counts~

When I was in middle school, though, I used to be all "omg you cant spell crap without rap lol lol lol!!11"

The only parody I've ever enjoyed by Weird Al is Trapped in the Drive Thru which I love to death.

I hate it when people be hatin' on the hip hop and rap. It seems that people just assume that whenever anyone talks about it they mean "FIFTY CENT" and "AKON" there are lots of AMAZING rappers out there though, particularly 90's in my opinion but there are some good one in this time as well like J5, Duane and Brand0, 28 Days, Mos Def, Lupe Fiasco, Megaran, Plastilina Mosh, BEP, Mad Villain and Danger Doom.

All the new artists suck. They have the same words for atleast 20 times.

The real artists are the people that kept on going with different lyrics. Something like 50 cent- Cuz' I got High.

He had different things because he got high. -_- Which was cool. So that was a good combo of repetitiveness.

So is the hip hop community still divided between east and west coasts? East is all about the lyrics, and west is about the music.

I listen to a pretty wide variety but tend to lean towards Old School and Underground.
There are waay too many to list but some of favs are Ludacris, Lupe Fiasco, Blueprint, Immortal Technique, Sage Francis, Atmosphere, Wu-Tang clan/GZA, Pharcyde, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, Kool Keith, The Funky DL, N.E.R.D, LMFAO, Snoop Dogg.

Like I said, too many to list.

I like a lot of older rap mostly...a lot of the newer stuff just doesn't do it for me without a proper hip-hop feel to it. I love stuff like Grandmaster Flash & the Furious 5, Run DMC, J5, DJ Jezzy Jeff, etc...although there is some newer stuff that I don't mind such as Snoop Dogg or Mos Def. I pretty much listen to anything that sounds good & makes me wanna move. What I don't like in this genre though, is talentless hacks like Master P or 50 Cent...I just can't get into that kind of garbage.
