you could make it out of clay, or paper mache, but if I were to do clay I would get the air dry stuff, so you don't have to cook it in A kelm

Yeah, that normal clay would be WAY too heavy. And if I were to bump it too hard or drop it, it would break. Not a good idea.

As for the Air dry clay, is that light enough? I dont want to be top heavy. lol

The clay sounds like the easiest way to make it, but its also the heaviest way. How would i do it with paper mache?

alright air dry clay tends to be lighter then actual clay, and I think that would be your best bet.

How well does air dry clay hold its shape?

I picture it easily bending under its own weight...

I mean, once it dries out, is it solid? Does it crack?

Binding I was told is a breathtaking science. Try a sports bra or one piece bathing suit rather than tape. That's what my GF does for her Kurama cosplay.

How did you make helmet part?

Im trying to decide, or figure out rather, how to make the head piece for my skarmory gijinka....

I'm doing marowak. For the skull I took a baseball hat and glued some wire on it to make the basic shape. Then I put paper mache on to get a base. Once that was done I got light wight Spackle/plaster to give it more shape and to smooth it out. After that was dry I covered it with resin to give it strength. It is hard enough I could probably skull bash someone XD I am probably going to do one more layer of resin before I paint it.

Well guys, I actually talked to my mom a bit about my Skarmory Gijinka idea. She is....dealing with it. lol
She will help me a bit if I need it. However, I bet I'll get better advice/help from you guys then her. lol

So pretty soon Im going to go to the arts and crafts store and maybe a fabric store to look around for possible supplies.

I know I can get the shorts at a sports store or somthing.
Do they make that shirt in the mens area of stores? lol

I should be able to make the arm armor from that foam armor tutorial you gave me.
The tail will be a piece of cake.

The head piece and feet will be the hard part.

Im not sure where or how to start though...
Any tips for me starting this?

I haven't been in here forever. Might I ask what your Skarmory design looks like so I can get a better idea, Shadow?

Plans got changed awhile ago. My Latios became a Marill, and I became a Cherrim this year. Dress is on it's way, I'm recycling a wig for it, and I have the supplies ready to be cut/foamed together for her petals. I will take pictures when my petals are done hopefully next week. <3

I'm excited to see all the new people in here. :3

Pretty much the same, but as you can see, I changed the wings to be a cape-like thing and the tail is a sword, which you can have or not.

Have you looked into boot/shoe cover tutorials? Or armor tutorials? I would just find a pair of shoes and start building off them with foam or plush. It could get warm if you want plush, so I would suggest a durable foam in case you walk alot in the costume.

As for the hat, again I would find a headband and just start building off it or look into some helm tutorials. At the moment, I can't find the ones I saved somewhere though I'll keep looking. :3

Yeah, an idea hit me for the hat piece.

The feet will just be really hard. I want them to look like bird feet as well as be functional.
Im not sure if the typical shoe cover tutorials will work for this.

Should I make the wings/Cape as a single piece of fabrit. (AKA: Thin) Or should I make it differently?

I guess I would personally make it the same fabric to make it stronger and worry about it less? It's my own personal taste though. When I wear too many accessories on my back, I tend to lose one, so when I make them whole it feels stronger and more secure to me?

I know how you want bird feet, and I would just suggest maybe make the shape of it and and curve it then mount it to whatever shoes you want? They just might need to be extra long/big feet. If that makes sense. D:

Get a normal tank and just cut it. That's what I had to do with my Envy cosplay. And I'm wearing that for Zorua as well.

But your Zorua cosplay picture has no stomach exposed. I mean, there is no bare skin showing. lol

Anyways, Ok. Do I need to do anything else after cutting it? Wont the fabric easily tear or unravel if I cut it?
Also, I have a black under armor shirt which sounded good as it would be tight like your picture shows.

Which do you think is the better option between the two?

Depending on the fabric, it will shed/fray if you don't put a hem. Just put a hem on the bottom and it will be fine. C:

I like the tight under armor though. Might give it the more badass Skarmory feel?

But yes, hemming is a must for most fabrics.
