I think I'm only wearing two costumes and some lolita :3 Last year I modeled for the lolita fashion show and it was super fun, I'm hoping to do it again this year.

I'll be attending Sakuracon '11 with minimal trouble. My seasonal work dries up a week before the con and the only issue I ever have in Seattle is finding a place to eat and someone that is willing to share their room. I usually travel around or on the holidays so everything tends to be all screwed up when I'm there. I've taken a liking to cosplay and vocaloid these days so if I'm not a complete fatty by then I'll probably be cosplaying a very evil looking Kaito. :)

Remember the cheap end of pre-reg ends today so if you haven't done that you might want to. I'm going to try finding a roommate before registering if possible though.

It was recently decided by my parental figure that I need to pay off 30k in loans in 2 years while going to school full time.

How I'm going to do that is beyond me :|

Wow, rush-attempt at getting people to surprise pre-register is failure. -_-'
You win an Earthy sugar delight(and maybe an Internet).
It was recently decided by my parental figure that I need to pay off 30k in loans in 2 years while going to school full time.
That's absurdly funny. Whatever you're learning better be worth at least 8x that. I don't have time to sit around in a class for 4 years wondering if the job I'm studying for will be feasible after graduation. I'm not sure how you're able to rack up a 30K debt in half that time but more power to you. Time is too precious and the size of everyone's debts are going to be their only defining measure of "wealth" for the next 10 years. I hope the leaders wake up soon. Destroying the middle class will only cause massive mutiny and the destruction of this country. :/

Also, I somehow managed to find a roommate for Sakuracon before I pre-registered last night. Now is the time to figure that stuff out because we all know Seattle doesn't play by traveler's rules. It's big and expensive and gets worse the more you wait. It's almost as bad as trying to find your own room in LA during Anime Expo.

What, that doesn't even make sense. Isn't the point of a loan that you don't have to start paying it back until after you finish your schooling?

I've been thinking of possibly doing a panel at Sakuracon a variation on the Oraku 30+ only in this case it would be Otaku 25+.

Now, onto the original topic...

SAKURACON!!!

So, apparently Tiffany Grant is going to be a guest this year.  I heard that she was coming to a con in Idaho this year, too.  (I wonder if she likes the Northwest area, or something...).

As for Sakuracon, no idea.  You'd probably have better luck knowing for sure if you went to them directly.  However, there are some people in our family that also staff at Sakuracon; they might know.

Same here...-_-'

I'm not afraid of Sakuracon like I am of cons out of state. I've been trying to tease myself with very small cons in the absence of AX. Though it appears Sakuracon is going to be my new AX with the way things have been in recent years. It's not worth regret let alone fear so unless something happens to me, I'm going.

No, Kumoricon doesn't allow that. You don't get the upgraded badge for your age until the day of. The policy is stated on the registration page:

Quote
Your age on September 2, 2011 determines what type of registration you need to purchase. If you turn 13 or 18 during the convention, you can swap out your badge for the upgraded age type during the convention, starting on the day of your birthday, without any additional cost, but if you intend to do this, please contact us in advance to make arrangements at registration@kumoricon.org.

I don't know what Sakura-Con's policy for badge upgrades for birthdays during the convention is, but I think it's very unlikely they would allow you to get the adult badge early, even by a day. There are legal reasons for the age policies, and "turns 18 tomorrow" is no different from "under 18".

For all 3 days I'm going as Henry Townsend.

Oh and folks if any of you want I could put a link to my blog post on how to stay safe at a convention if anyone wants to look. Also I have other pieces of advice.

1. Either have your parents do this or do it yourself but go to the three major credit unions and GET YOUR BANK ACCOUNT OR ACCOUNTS FLAGGED!!!

I.D. thieves if they get a hold of your credit card information will immeadiately seek to make copies of it to access your account. Flagging your accounts is a way tio protect yopurself from that so you can enjoy Sakuracon with no worries.

2, Sign up yourself or get your parents to sign you up for an I.D. theft protection company such as say...Lifelock. In general it's a good idea to have this because I.D. theft protection companies will REALLY help insuire that you're not lible for anything I.D. thieves might charge if they get your information. And you inadvertantly might just help the police catch some I.D. thieves while at it.

TRUST ME I.D, THEFT PROTECTION COMPANIES ARE GOOD!!!!!

What does any of this have to do with attending a convention?

What does "flagging" an account mean?

One can't be liable for actions that one doesn't take. Regarding credit or debit card contracts that one has entered, US law limits personal liability for fraudulent use of credit cards to $50, and many (most?) banks limit both credit card and debit card liability further than the law requires, to 0. I would suggest it's a better idea to first check and know the policies of one's bank, before subscribing to an external service that may provide only indirect help.

Flagging an account means that the bank will watch it for suspicious activity. Which, in my opinion, is stupid to do. We are going to a convention where we are probably going to spend a good deal of money on food and random items we confuse ourselves into thinking we need. Most people spend a lot of money at con and if someone went and flagged their account without knowing what it would do, they probably would get shut off and then have NO way to pay for anything the rest of con.
Some people save all year to splurge at cons and flagging will do nothing but inhibit that process.
Plus, smart people who steal won't go and make large purchases at once but do a lot of smaller ones over a period of time that add up. So it would look just like a normal con spending anyways. (Only stupid thieves go splurge and get the attention of the bank.)

So really all flagging does is inhibit you if you see an expensive item you want. (Or if an emergency comes up and something bad happens. :/)
If you plan to spend a lot, a better idea is to call your bank and tell them, "Hey...I'm going to be spending a lot of money in a short period of time. Don't flag my account and don't worry about it because it's actually me." If you are worried about over the phone stuff, go to your bank and talk to them about it.

EDIT: Better yet, use cash. Girls can stick it in their bras if they are worried about losing it. Guys...ask your female friends to stick it in their bras. XP

I agree with this..., these.  Well, if my cosplay is ready to go by then, I won't have to worry about my female friends. ;D

Okay flagging is a good idea because as an example some people have stuck little devices into say gas pumps and credit card machines at hotels in order to swipe people's credit card information. I saw a news report about this on the news.

You could never predict that. It has nothing to do with any preparation for an anime convention, and could happen to anyone at anytime, short of just not having or ever using the card. That means everyone should just "flag" their account at all times? That would be meaningless. Furthermore, if your card is being swiped at a gas pump, that means you are trying to use it, so what are you trying to tell your bank? Be alert for usage on the card?

Better, subscribe to your bank's email or text message alerts for credit or debit card usage, so you're immediately notified of any activity. That's also fun in little ways, like you can see if fast food places write in fake tips or otherwise overcharge you slightly (this has happened to me three times, all at different places, because they know most people don't subscribe to alerts or will notice a discrepancy of a couple of dollars on their statement a month later). But most importantly, you can notify your bank of fraudulent activity in minutes, instead of days (or longer if they don't contact you because they got suspicious). And no need to "flag" any accounts or subscribe to suspicious "theft prevention" services.

Okay first let me apologize if I've ruffled any staff feathers especially you Jeff T. I''m just trying to help.

But I've got some more Sajuracon advice.

Sakuracon granted is still konths away but it's never too late to do this:

MAKE A LIST!!!

Step 1: That is make a check list of anything and every thing that you want and need to take along (Shoes, shirts, soap, shampoo, cosplay materials, etc.). I personally recommend using a word processing program to write out what you need to have but if you want to write it out by hand and you think your handwriting's legiible enough then that's cool.

Step 2: Put the list somewhere where you can see it everyday (Bedroom door, desk, etc.) and try to check off at least one thing a day. That way when Sakuracon does roll around you can be ready to go and well do whatever your heart and whimsy move you to do.

You haven't ruffled any staff feathers--I'm just posting as myself, not as staff.

I'm working on the paperwork for our club's trip to the con (despite a few What If's we're still working on).  What's dumb about this is that I'm not even supposed to be doing this; the students are.  I'm only doing it because the two officers that know how to do it are busy focusing on graduating-related classes, so I'm doing it for them.  (We also need the school to approve of a financial assistance request, which could be alright).
