Well this is my first con at 18.
My birthday is in October so I was pissed last year that it it was one month later or I was one month earlier, I would have been an adult. XP But I'm going to make up for it by going to as many 18+ events that I can. Speed Dating and all~<3 I've wanted to Speed Date for forever and now I finally get to. [/spins]

I'm not really that shy. I am when I don't feel welcome but when I feel like I belong somewhere, I'm not. I'm actually a fairly perverted person but most of my friends are girls so normally all I grab is boobs (not literally...). I'm a tease and a pervert but guys are scared of me because I'm normally quiet and my thinking face apparently makes me look really, really angry. I was talking to a footballer from my old school and he said when he first saw me in class he thought I would stab him if he talked to me...
So no, I'm not shy if I feel comfortable with where I am. And if I was shy I wouldn't run around half naked at cons in outfits like Sasuko's. The less clothing for me, the better. I'm just weird like that. But I guess that's why guys are scared of me. I'm fairly Bi-Polar (not really) in how I act around groups I know and groups I don't. Like today at our team meeting for my job. I sat there silently and I even started to cry a bit because I felt like I didn't belong there. But if I was around my friends, I probably would have been the loudest person there and jumping around and spinning as if I owned the place. I just don't feel comfortable in a lot of situations unless I know for a fact I'm welcomed there and in those situations I'm really quiet and keep to myself. I don't meet people, people meet me.
As for why girls don't get hit on at cons...it's probably how the guys feel about themselves. A lot of guys think that girls wouldn't go for them because they are nerds or whatever. But what they don't realize is that that's probably the kind of guy they like. If we're at a convention, obviously we like to be around those kinds of people.
Guys are also hard on themselves on how they look. Most girls like tall and skinny or at least well toned guys. A lot of guys aren't like that and they hold it against themselves. But you gotta look at the facts. Most girls don't run around anime conventions half naked either. We aren't your normal girls so even though we may like our men to be bishounen and flashing on the televisions in front of us...that doesn't mean we won't like a guy just because he isn't exactly the Kurama or Sasuke or whoever of our dreams.
Guys are really just too hard on themselves and need to crack open the shell and give the girls a chance! We aren't normal and we like it. We don't like the normal things either. Normal is boring...
Of course, I could say the same thing for girls. I have seen quite a few decent guys at cons but I feel like I'm not worthy enough to talk to them so I don't. And if I do, I treat them the same as I treat everyone because I don't think I would ever have a chance with them. If a guy thinks hard enough, they'd realize how I treated them may seem the same but it's not. It's the same for all girls. We think we aren't worthy so we treat the guys we like the same as our friends. But if they think, they'd realize they're different. Like for me. I make eye contact more with them and try to talk to them more than everyone else around me so I can learn more about them. I am fairly subtle about it because I'm amazing like that but there's still the differences.
Guys also don't notice these things and when they see girls treating them the same they go all, "She doesn't like me more than a friend. D8" and go into the closet to grow mushrooms. The only time they notice is if a girl blatantly throws herself at him and goes, "HAVE MY BABIES NOW!!!!!!!!!!" D8<
Which is where an event like this comes into play! 8D (it all ties in!)
Girls can pick out that cute guy in the group and when that ramune bottle lands on them they can be all, "Snog or snog?
"
Okay, maybe not but they can ask them to pick any of the four and it will give the guy the hint that, "Hey! She's interested...!" And then if he wants, he can show interest back by choosing Kiss or Snog. Kiss would be like, "I'm unsure but you're cute and I want to get to know you better." Snog is like, "Can I get your number? Your room number that is.
" Or like, "Damn straight I'm interested!"
But people can also be subtle. When the bottle lands on someone you wanted it to, you react differently than if it was someone you don't. Some people jump, other's have their eyes open wide, and some smile brighter. You just gotta watch their faces. ^^

I'm doomed to have shirts that are too short or shirts that are too baggy around my waist so my boobs fit in them.
Which is why I am happy that I now have a sewing machine and can probably sew my own clothes so my shirts fit correctly from now on or I can at least alter the Mediums to be Smalls around the waist....

I was Mello one year and luckily the vest was big enough that with a few sports bras I could squish to being unnoticeable.

Especially since the outfit wasn't mine. XD I met a girl the day before when I was Matt and we decided to switch cosplays. I can truthfully say I got into a girl's pants one day after meeting her. [/nod, nod] I don't know if that's a good thing but I did it. XD
