I just destoryed a 100 dollar wig..
« on: August 30, 2010, 10:46:56 pm »
So..my Tsubaki wig..the most horrible cosplay nightmare I've ever had..

It used to look so pretty with it's beautiful high pony tail, there were a few faults, but it was good. I had to start messing with it (gently brushing etc.) after it started to because a bit tangled (keep in mind, this wig was giant, the pony tail went to below my knees). it took a really long time to brush because it's fibers pulled and stretched easily.  Then a more serious thing started to happen, hair near the pony tail start started to bunch up, I had no idea what to do. My friend had the brilliant idea to take it down from the pony tail. I put this idea off for a long time because it would be really hard to put back up. But finally, I gave in and took it down. IT WAS A FREAKING MESS..the wig was not designed to be down from the pony tail, weird tufts everywhere, giant balls of tangles. So I started cutting, and cutting...until it was to my shoulders when before it went to below my knees. Now it's a giant mess with different sized tuffs.

What I learned is that I'll never cosplay a character with a pony tail or long hair.

Oh my gosh, I'm sorry.
Is it still useable?

If you read it all..the wig now goes to above my shoulders and there are tons of holes in it, with chunks of hair different sizes going everywhere.

I did read it all, but I've never seen the character before, so I wasn't sure what length it needed to be.

That's really sucky, I'm sorry. D:

Do you think you can post a pic of it? Maybe you can scrounge up some wefts to fill in the holes or something and get some detangler to fix some of the stray hairs?

Ew, sucks that you went through that. D: I've read on cosplay.com that silicone spray is really good for detangling wigs, so if you ever find yourself in such a situation again...

I'll still be cosplaying Tsubaki..but it may be a possibility that it's Tsubaki with short, red hair.

I'm going to try to over night just a plain medium black wig from near my home but..I don't know if it will get here on time.

There's not really a possibility of fixing it..the wig is to above my shoulders when the hair is supposed to go below my waist..and the wig wasn't even supposed to be taken out of the pony tail it came in.

maybe you can find a short wig and use hair extentions as the ponytail.

I live in the middle of a forest.. luckily I over nighted a wig from the same state as me, hopefully it can get here before 3 days.

It'll be fine.  I'm sure you'll find a way to make it work still.  My girlfriend got her Haruhi cosplay in the mail today, but it's too small in a few areas, so she's planning on doing an out-of-school version of Haruhi.
My cosplay plans for 2022 (thus far): Vanir from Konosuba
My son's plans this year (thus far): Penguin Chiyo-chan from Azumanga Daioh
