Cosplay Signatures
« on: September 08, 2010, 05:13:17 am »
I've noticed that a lot of people have made signatures saying what they will cosplay. Some are a little crude and look like they are done in paint. That's fine! I think it's great that people make such an effort to make their own things. If anyone wants to use them, though, I made some bases. I know they aren't perfect, but I whipped them up really quick. ^_^;

These are really cool. It's nice of you to make them for other people's use.

Heyyy, and then people can shift the hue so they can be a variety of colors. Not bad.

I suppose I could do this; it never occurred to me that it'd be worth bothering. But then, at least, I wouldn't have to worry about the sig length limit that always seems to get in the way with a text-only signature.

They do look nice, but what if someone has more than just three cosplays?

It'd be easy to expand the image and copy-paste more boxes in while still keeping them nice-looking. It's doable even with MS paint (copy and paste!)

Anyway, this is a very nice idea.
Done: Blue Spirit (A:tLA), Sollux Captor (HS)
will do: Yukio (AnE), Robin (YJ), genderbent Nilus (MAOH), Dave and Signless (Homestuck); other things I'm forgetting

^ Except if you do that, you'll also be copying some of the lettering on the bottom, so it'll look bad.

Nom.

BTW, if you use magic wand in PS to cutout the boxes, it'll take some of the text glow with it. I suggest magic, and then shift subtract rectangular marquee.

I might recomend making their verticle a little smaller. sigs that are oversized tend to slow things down loading and such.

^ agpgirl demonstrates an easier way to edit the image if you don't care enough to have rounded corners (or they don't look good in your image editor).

However, note that agpgirl's image is 115KB.  This is because it is a PNG.  The original file korin posted at the top of this thread is under 40KB.  Most of the size difference is because korin used JPG format, not because of the dimensions of the image.

It is each user's responsibility to keep an eye on the file size of their signature images, so I would recommend that everyone use JPG format. And keep in mind that you can usually adjust the compression "quality" of your JPGs from the "Save As" window.  Simply bumping down the quality a few notches can make the file size MUCH smaller, and you might not even notice the difference when you look at the image itself.  For instance:

Look at this second image. Can you tell the difference? I can't. :) But it's about 16KB in file size... 99KB less than the original.

To do this, I saved agpgirl's image as a JPG and used just a little bit of compression.  Even if I used a maximum-quality JPG, the file size would still be cut in half!  The moral is that JPG/JPEG format is really handy. :)
