MariaRose, yes but there's also the problem with money and I already have my heart set on the cosplays I have on my list.
It's Miria.  ;) And that sucks. But like Malaria said, lots of APH cosplayers come out of the woodwork at con.

LIKE A MILLION MORE OF THEM
-HUFF HUFF-

But anyway! Blender, if you're really so worried about there being a Japan around, there's always the time-tested tactic of cajoling one of your friends into it.

A bit OT, but I think you guys'll appreciate this. Today I sat through a presentation on Olympic boycotts that include the presenter mixing up South America and Africa, and being completely unable to tell which nations belonged on which continent. It was also pretty entertaining watching him struggle through trying to pronounce Seychelles. I almost wish Côte d'Ivoire had come up.

So, I'm thinking that I've determined which character to go as, IF finances will enable me to do so.  I think I'll be focusing on Ukraine.

That's funny!

Side trivia!  Côte d'Ivoire changed its name from Ivory Coast in 1985.

That's just really sad. Just about as sad as someone being asked to do a Welsh accent and breaking out into an Indian one because they had no idea where Wales was and thought it had something to do with India (which I did, in fact, witness.)
I would've given him a blank map of Africa and asked him to name all the countries.

I had the best world history teacher ever, and so when we got to our Africa section for geography, he told us a story to help us remember the countries for the test. It was about Chad, a man who drove a Sudan. Him and his girlfriend wanted to go to Lake Victoria, but his tank was DOUBLE E for empty, and he was so MADAbouttheGASinhisCAR. He ended up going to a gas station, got some ZZ top and some Eminem, and then him and his girlfriend got to Lake Victoria and tanned.

. . I don't really remember it well, but that's the basic story. Shi probably remembers better than I.

Awesome. Also, that Gilbird is adorable!  :D

Does anyone in here know how long it takes to drive from San Francisco to Portland? My classes begin a week before Kumo, which is some mass fail. I'll probably have to leave early on Monday so I can make it back to school.

Thanks! Alright, that won't be so bad. I won't even have to leave early on Monday and I can get a few hours of sleep in!

Saki, for college? I'd do it if I'd still be in highschool, but missing classes I don't have every day isn't something I'd like to do. xD;; SORRY, I should have clarified.

Miria: As long as your classes don't have required attendance (and even if they do!) there's a certain amount of leeway for missed classes, especially if it's a lecture+powerpoint type class, 'cause then you can just get the notes later. I know you're disinclined 'cause you're a good student, but once you get far into the term, this'll seem like a perfectly good option, especially if you feel like sleeping in. xP

EDIT

Also, added Jeanne d'Arc to my list n.n

EDIT EDIT

Got the dye, ribbons, and lace for Seychelles. Also got the first batch of fabric for Jeanne and the fabric for my chest bind.

Miria+Shi: Oi oi, what's with all the people suddenly cutting out Sak?

In short? Family that I'm not immediately connected to had a sudden serious change in health, and it's thrown everything that was planned off. Currently, it's hinging on my dad getting home, and talking it out to see what the final verdict is~
And I'm dragging Miria up, so she gets involved by proxy. ;;

@Mitsukai Seconding Michael's. The only non-fifteen feet or above collapsible flag pole I found was $30. And a standard one's sturdier and works just as well.

Hmm I guess so. I'm just worried about accidentally braining someone with it xD;;; or moving through the halls of con with it. Would I have to get the pole peace bonded?

Now I'm gonna get a French flag to go with Jeanne as well xD;;;

Shi: Oh no! I hope it all works out for the best.

Mitsu: Don't worry about it. Many people, probably clumsier than you ie me, have managed just fine with their 5' flagpoles. The trick is to keep it close to your body. And for propriety's sake, keep your flag off the ground. The easiest thing you can do to make sure you aren't dragging is to tuck the top corner into one of the holes and pull it through. It's pretty easy to pull out, even with a cheap polyester flag like mine, and you don't have to worry about doing something horrible to someone's national pride. : D

Sak's a bit neurotic with its weapons policy, so you will probably need it peacebonded. I don't remember if that was a thing at Kcon. Regardless, it's not that much of an imposition.

Mitsu: There is a particular white flag that Jeanne was known to carry,she even stated, "I had a banner of which the field was sprinkled with lilies; the world was painted there, with an angel at each side; it was white; there was written above it, 'JHESUS MARIA'; it was fringed with silk." If I did a Jeanne I was planning on making this flag. Do I know a little too much about Jeanne? Maybe.
Though if you could find the flag of medieval France that would be awesome as well. Although these are historical things that I myself would enjoy, I can understand to be recognized and for convenience's sake you'd want to stick with the current French flag. These are just little things I thought I'd mention just in case you wanted to go the extra mile.

Ah, I forgot about St. Joan's Battle Standard, Pennon and Banner. I found the medieval French flag easy enough on ebay (from the same people I got another flag from, no less!) but I can't seem to find a replica of her flag. I might decide to make it myself, but if not, I'll get the medieval flag. Thanks n.n

I'll definitely have to get her sword and Pirate!Iggy's rapier peacebonded into their sheaths when I get them xD;;;

The ones I'm looking through for Jeanne are these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/KNIGHTS-TEMPLAR-Crusader-MEDIEVAL-Ceremonial-SWORD-/260750495440?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cb5f0ced0
http://www.gothicfantasy.com/Gen2/ip-085.html
(I could not, for the life of me, find a replica of the Fierbois Sword that wasn't a letter opener xD;;;)

And a rapier for Iggy:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Renaissance-Rapier-Fencing-Sword-Swept-Hilt-Wire-/390297239409?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5adf873f71
... or a cutlass:
http://cgi.ebay.com/38-Pirate-Sword-Caribbian-Cutlass-/260731155218?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cb4c9b312

EDIT
Found much better swords already xDD;;; And I'm looking into getting a medieval English flag for Pirate Iggy

Hey, is anyone else going as non-nation Hetalia characters? I think I saw an Old Fritz or two, and I'm going as Jeanne d'Arc... and I think I saw a General Winter? Maybe? xD;;;

EDIT

Also decided on Jeanne's and Iggy's swords.

Jeanne:
http://cgi.ebay.com/41-Medieval-Crusader-Knights-Long-Sword-Plaque-/200579161669?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2eb3731e45

Iggy:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Black-Pirates-Caribbean-Cutlass-Sabre-Sword-/150575966745?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item230f06ea19

The only thing that might change is if I can find a good person to commission Jeanne's sword out of metal.

I am going to have FAR too much fun as Jeanne d'Arc... despite the fact only Hetalia fans will probably recognize me unless I make the St. Joan Battle Standard n.n;;; I was SO happy when I saw she was in Hetalia, even if for like... a single panel xD I am a huge history buff, and Jeanne d'Arc is... my childhood hero I guess xD

Does anyone know where to get a (possibly cheap) Iron cross for a necklace? I can't seem to find any that doesn't have the swastika on it....
I had that problem, too. >.> Except I don't live anywhere near Portland so I just said "F this" and went without one.

Saki: Mmmmm.... I got mine off Ebay. And it's sexy and without swastika.
I wish I could remember the person though. I'm sorry! DX

Seconding eBay. You can find some for $20 or under.

I actually have progress. :3 I'm finally able to pay for shipping on my TaoBao order, so I'll have wigs sometime within the next two weeks. (Spain, Belarus, replacements for both Austria and Hungary)
And since it'll be on the way soon, Miria, I got you an Iron Cross. : D

No update on Sakura yet, though. I'll probably bring it up in an hour or so. :x
