October 30 - watch this space
« on: September 11, 2010, 01:59:26 pm »
We are having an event at the Vancouver Hilton on October 30th!  It will be in cooperation with Gamestorm and Orycon.  It will be a completely free event!

Umm... other details to follow as soon as we ... make them up.  But, being as it is Halloween weekend we will likely go with that theme and be expecting to see some awesome costumes!

Collaborative between Kumori, Ory and Gamestorm?  And Halloween themed?  Can I mash up the names and call it GoryCon?  Or GoriCon?

I like GoryCon, myself.

The timing of the date is epically awesome, because the Clark Manga & Anime Club is going to be trying to do something at the college the day before for Halloween.

One of our Webcomic submissions this year was in the Edward Gorey fandom. It could be fun to have cosplays themed on Gorey & have a GoreyCon.

(GoryCon, sans e, is a brilliant title.)

...so?  Portland has assimilated Vancouver and the rest of lower Clark County as its own, despite a state boundary.

Tell Portland to get some better event space!  Hopping back up to Vancouver with it's sales tax, registered agents and different laws is a complicated process.  We would not be taking this on again lightly :)

Yeah....

Promise you guys - and the board can back me up on this... I didn't look at VanHilt and go;

OOOHHH! SHINY! ME WANT!

*pounds fist in open hand*

I was analytical! I made CHARTS! And DIAGRAMS! And I weighed the pros and cons! We walked
the distance! And we talked about the difficulties! Trust us when we say, at current, Vancouver
has the best to offer Kumoricon to keep it going strong and fun! Of course, if you have questions
regarding the awesome event we plan to have in October, and want to help out with that, let us
know, we aren't sure of all the details yet but that will give you a great chance to experience the
Main Hotel well before con, if you haven't been there.

Ever hear "Alice's Restaurant", by Arlo Guthrie? I could totally see you with "pictures with arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one".

Ironically the problem I have is that I rent a hybrid for commuting, to reduce my carbon footprint, but it only has unlimited mileage if I stay within the state of Oregon. So I would have to park somewhere in Portland and either catch a ride or public transit (or walk the bridge?) or pay vastly more.

That said: Is there easy public transit to the new sites?

Also, this is a rumor going around: Is there going to be a shuttle between them? I told the person who mentioned such that I could not imagine KC taking on that kind of liability. He said one of the hotels might be providing it. ??? Maybe for GoH's or for people with physical disabilities?

More definite info will go up soon, but, what was announced at the Annual Meeting:
From 9 AM to 10 PM  (Or maybe 10:30?  But around then...)
Video Gaming, Custome Contests with Prizes, Anime Viewing, LARPing, Gamestorm's game library, Munchkin Bites Tournament, Photoshoot Area ...

This event is being put on jointly by Gamestorm and Kumoricon.  Orycon will likely also have some involvement.  The categories for the costume contests will go up very soon :)

Well, we are hoping for a big turnout for the costume contests.  I think we have like 7 catagories ...?  I'll see how quick we can get that all confirmed.  I know we are doing 3 'Con Chair Picks'.  The Chairs of all three cons will pick the best costume relevant to that con's topic.  (Gaming related for Gamestorm, Cosplay or Asian for us, Fantasy/Sci Fi for Ory ...)
