Mewcon Cosplay Chess
« on: September 13, 2010, 09:20:19 am »
Alright I am going to be hosting the cosplay chess panel at Mewcon this year. If you are interested in signing up please fill out this and email it to me at mulholln@gmail.com by December 1st, please include a picture of your cosplay, a complete picture. I will create the teams and create a script and send it out to everyone. I'll let you know of the teams prior to making the script.

If you are unable to email it to me send me a message and I will give you a mail address to send it to.

I saved it as a word document so most people should be able to open it, add in the information and save and resend it. If you have having problems let me know and I can try to help.

You don't need to know how to play chess, the pieces just move where they are told and play battle that is it.

I assume that this means someone will be telling the pieces where to go, still abiding by traditional rules...

No my dear Washougal- we shall have the pieces running wild over the board, an all out melee! Knights running down pawns, Rooks checking queens like a hockey player in a bad mood. Kings actually DOING SOMETHING USEFUL! Thats how MEWcon Chess shall be run this year!

Note: Entire post should be read in a lighthearted tone, nothing said should be taken as serious in order to save us all some trouble.

P.S.: Jail Rules Chess sounds amazing though, too bad we have "laws" and "standards" we have to abide by.

I prefer my chess with rules and strategies.  This is making me lean more towards a "yes" to whether or not I'll be going.

Yeah what I plan on doing is looking up a pretty good, long, and quite strategic chess game up online then putting the pieces to that and making a script and what not. I think it will be pretty good. I may not give a script to the chess masters so they can improv all they want. I haven't decided yet. I am open for suggestions ^_^

Does anyone know Where the MewCon Cosplay Chess going to be held? I just ask because I want to know if
there will be space for spectators... I've seen the new space and I'm just curious if it's going
to have the ability to be watched, or if I should just suck it up and join in the fun?

If it's during Day 2 (which I think is supposed to be the villian-themed day, if I remember correctly) I might be going as Bakura from Yu-Gi-Oh or Lore from Star Trek: TNG.  Neither one should be a pawn; maybe rooks and bishops...?

Yeah, I know, and I WILL WATCH IT!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

I don't think this was mentioned, but what day of the con will this game be?  I know that most cons that do this have it on the last day, but I'm pretty sure I've heard others doing it on the second.  Plus, if I can only go for one day, I'd like to have some idea as to which day I'll be doing.

The schedule, although started, is no where near ready to be released. Besides, we still have three and a half months before the convention. I can say that we are trying to meet every scheduling request for panels, however, there have been a great deal of requests for times after four pm which there is limited of. There was also talk last meeting of cosplay chess being in main-events in the afternoon (the specific day was not mentioned).

@ nikkiolie, good luck, personally & professionally
@ disproportionate request for panels after 4pm, is that true for Sunday, as well? (I'm thinking of running some panels, but they would be Sunday mid-afternoon or later.)
@ House season premier: As with every episode of House I can recall, there were parts where I liked the flirting and interpersonal dynamics, parts that squicked me medically, parts that squicked me with "Did they just go there?" inappropriateness, but overall, I ended up even more invested in what happens within and amongst the characters, and I am rooting for Huddy to work out as a couple. Does feel like a long-shot, though. But yeah, it didn't really feel like it lived up to the all-summer hype (but what ever does?).

So, I can't find the PM I got from Ellen about which days were what cosplay theme, but I remember the villian one.  Which day is that one, and what are the others, again?  This way I may have a better idea as to what I may cosplay as, should I submit a form to be a chess piece...

Day 1-rave/party
Day 2-Villains
Day 3-World of Labyrinth/Steampunk

So I've got my plans finalized, cosplay wise. I don't have any of them done yet, but Nikki, I'll just tell you what I'm planning, so you can tell me which one/ones I should put in. So I know which ones to get done first.

Alakazam gijinka (probably have a Sabrina be the piece and me the attack), Akito-Air Gear, and GraveRobber-REPO! The Genetic Opera.

I'm not really quite sure what I'd choose for Labyrinth or Steampunk, either, but at least I have some possible ideas...

If there is still only one person Dec 1 I will be canceling the panel so if you want to play please fill out the form soon. You can even send me a picture of your cosplay later I just need more people who want to play.
