Yes, it's fun to observe (and sometimes even partake in) polarized fandom scenes.
Because my preference ALWAYS totally pownes the other possible choice!!!
Windows vs Mac (or Linux or FreeBSD)
One USN Iowa class vs IJN Yamato (no air cover or support/escort vessels, and no subs)
Starbucks vs Dunkin' Donuts
Patriots vs Seahawks
"The" Reuben sandwich: corned beef vs pastrami?
Baklava: walnuts vs pecans (you can start minor ground battles with this question)
Team Edward vs Team Jacob
Now, if you want a REALLY underdog take on the reality world relationships/plot vs game-world relationships/plot, try ZEGAPAIN. ( a good 'Z' anime for this posting game, too!)
One world is like a highschool dating sim, and the other world is a space-mecha, Risk ( the boardgame) deal in which humanity is nearly all but wiped out by alien invasion except for personalities stored on servers, and as power to these server farms fail or the building get destroyed by neighborhood combat, more and more characters get obliterated. But as the show goes on, it gets more and more ambiguous as to which side is the 'real' story, and by the end it's purposely made impossible to make a final judgement: are these highschool kids who are all into a difficult SF MMPORG, and talk strategy trying to beat hopeless odds, -OR- is it really a bunch of beleagered, exhausted mech pilots who are trying to de-stress and support each other by entering a 'safe' dating sim world that helps remind them about how peaceful and happy things were before the alien attacks began destroying everything...?
