YKWGMG? My kitty, he's such a little brat. He'll knock (beat his paws against repeatedly) on the kitty door when he's not allowed outside (they're kept in at night) and wakes me up really early when he's hungry (every morning).

I mean I love him and he's super adorable, but man he's annoying. xD

He keeps getting slugs on him. I don't even know how or where they come from but periodically he just has slugs on him. It's so gross and I have no idea why but it needs to stooooop. -.-

T~T He just ruins it every time I try to defend him against people's 'fat' comments. They go 'Yeah well he's so lazy that slugs crawl on him.' I think it's a conspriracy. Maybe the slugs are getting faster!

YKWGMG? When people call renaissance clothes "gay" or "gay-looking" particularly when talking about the men's attire back then.

Clearly they are using the word "gay" to mean "happy", in keeping with the renaissance era .. or something.  I don't know.  Screw those people!

You know what really grinds my gears? Terrible customers. This woman at work almost had me in tears today because she was just SO UNBELIEVABLY RUDE AND DEMANDING WHEN THERE WERE FIFTY OTHER PEOPLE ALSO NEEDING MY ATTENTION AND I WAS THE ONLY PERSON WORKING THE FLOOR. She ruined my entire day. I was so upset. And I am a very, very difficult person to upset.

As someone who generally likes to see the best in people automatically and assumes everyone's cool and awesome, finding out some people are really absolutely unpleasant is so awful. ;_; Thankfully though, most of the people I talk to at work are generally pretty cool. You just get the occasional bad egg...

But that is the reason why I miss working in Adult Novelty stores. People came as either: 1. Nervous humorous 2. Nervous quiet 3. Open or 4. Way too open.

YKWGMG? "Anti-bacterial soap". Not only is it likely doing more harm than good, but it is *so* harsh on my skin. Makes it crack and bleed (sorry if that is TMI). When con hotel bathrooms have it as the only option I end up having to wear gloves by the end of con. I literally have to start bringing my own soap to cons and to work because my hands just can't take the abuse anymore. I have to literally soak my hands in organic olive oil to recover. (You can imagine that this amuses my cat.) Well the dermatologist recommended solid Crisco (vegetable shortening) but I don't have any of that laying around. Anyway. Triclosan is the main ingredient. It is like Nonoxyl-9. With Nonoxyl-9, a harsh chemical spermicide, the drug trials with prostituted women in Africa showed that it actually *increased* transmission of HIV. Why? Because the chemical was so harsh that it was causing multiple microabrasians in delicate ladyparts, thereby providing an opening to the bloodstream through the skin. (I know about this stuff because I used to translate Spanish for an HIV Testing Clinic and I now work for an HIV Specialist MD.) Triclosan is the same. For those who react to it, it causes breaks in the skin, thereby *increasing* risk of exposure/contagion/infection.

<<EDIT>> It also is a sad statement of the racism and sexism of the medical industry that trials of products in life and death situation are often performed on women of color in 3rd World countries (or, like the Tuskegee Syphilis trials, on men of color in the U.S.). This also GMG, as does animal testing for cosmetic and cleansing products, when, factually, cosmetic and cleansing products can be and are also made with safe vegan ingredients. *steps off soap box* <--no pun intended

When people threaten me with irl violence and think I won't see it and do something about it. Tsk tsk.

As a survivor of domestic violence I have to ask if you are presently in danger and if so what safeguards you are taking, supports you have and if you need help identifying resources for your protection.

My gear grinder and tear inducer atm is that a dear best pal just lost his brother/godson to a heroin OD tonight. I have written earlier that I try very hard not to hate but atm I HATE drugs. So much. Such a pointless waste.... I am straightedge. May this person and all those lost to drugs (ODs, disease, suicide, violence, car wrecks, etc.) rest in peace.

YKWGMG?  When organizations like the FDA and DEA lump dangerous drugs like Opiates, Methaphetamines, and Stimulants into the same category as Serotonin and Dopamine enhancers, so when kids experiment with Marijuana and Mushrooms and don't experience any adverse effects, they think that things like Opium, PCP, Speed, and Heroin aren't going to hurt them either.  Then they die from overdoses.  It's also pretty messed up that three of the six most addictive and dangerous drugs out there (Nicotine, Alcohol, and Caffeine; the other three are Heroin, Meth, and Crack/Cocaine) are legal and fairly inexpensive.  So kids grow up thinking that Cannabis--a plant used medicinally in controlled quantities to treat a plethora of diseases and which produces large amounts of tetrahydracannabinol, a dietary complement to naturally produced endocannabinol, with the effect of dopamine production regulation (I'll leave it up to you to look up any of those terms you might be unfamiliar with)--is dangerous and will lead them into an unhealthy and unproductive lifestyle, and that Nicotine and Alcohol--deadly, highly addictive poisons which the body naturally attempts to reject--are okay as long as you don't do it around kids and you're above a certain arbitrary age limit.  Talk about a backwards society. :/

Whether you're a strait-edge or a wild raver kid who's willing to try anything, do yourself and the rest of the world a favour and read some legitimate medical material and properly educate yourself before you make a decision to take, condone, or condemn ANY drug.  Legal, illegal, recreational, prescription, over-the-counter...ANY mind- or health-altering substance can have adverse effects if not taken intelligently and you should always be aware of every benefit and every detriment that anything you take or refuse to take represents.  Stay safe and stay savvy folks.

^ Unfortunately, learning and understanding what is beneficial, neutral, or genuinely dangerous takes time. So most people are content to trust "authority" (TV, magazines, newspapers, product labels, government agencies) and never read for themselves. Even though if you read carefully, you'll recognize that almost all of it comes from / is written by the same source - the corporations who run the show and who profit by you not reading.

That said, I fully agree with you about the fact that nicotine and alcohol are highly addictive and are responsible for FAR more deaths than illegal "drugs" - I've read the studies and done the math as well. But I wasn't aware that caffeine could be classified as being in the same league. Any good links I could peruse?

@Rem; that's horrible, and I'm sorry for the loss. At this point of that topic, I hate them. If you cant do it responsibly, then don't do it.

Disclaimer:  I personally do not condone illegal drug use at all. Sorry, I don't agree with it at all, personally for me. If you choose to use, then its your life you'll Fu** up, don't drag me into it.

YKWGMG?

When people threaten me with irl violence and think I won't see it and do something about it. Tsk tsk.

As a survivor of domestic violence I have to ask if you are presently in danger and if so what safeguards you are taking, supports you have and if you need help identifying resources for your protection.

It's some internet tough guy trying to "get back at" my friends and I. I've got it under control, the guy is just an idiot.

It makes me giggle when they're that sad. It really does.

Yeah it's incredibly obnoxious, especially because they use this forum and might be reading this right now.

For reference, 18 U.S.C. § 875(c) states: "Whoever transmits in interstate or foreign commerce any communication containing any threat to kidnap any person or any threat to injure the person of another, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both." If that's not clear enough: You don't have to actually harm someone to get in trouble for making Internet threats. The threat itself is enough to go to jail for, and it's a federal crime.

If whoever it is genuinely is reading this forum, I'd strongly recommend that you back down and forget about whatever grievance you think you have. Posthaste.

@ fleur, Glad you're safe.
@ Random, as always, you completely rock. J'taime.
@ Chan & DS, Thank you for the sympathy. Understandably, I have not yet been able to reach my friend to know how he is handling this, let alone his sweet 12-year-old daughter. I love them both.
@ Tofu: Well-said, I agree with most of what you said. However, I have seen people waste their lives away lazily on substances that maybe aren't harming them physically but are reducing their motivation to do things such as get legal work or finish school. Folks who "wake and bake", are, IMHO, just as addicted as folks who can't hold a civil conversation until their 2nd cup of coffee, even if the addiction is not neurochemical but psychological.
As a medical social worker and translator I saw many people die of sequelae to alcohol and/or tobacco addictions.
I do know of many folks addicted to caffeine and it does raise blood pressure.

Yeah, I've had some friends get pretty lost to weed addiction.  They usually come back (after running out of money, losing their apartment, and losing most of their friends), but it's still not pretty.  Certainly beats alcoholism or a heroin overdose though.

Caffeine's not particularly dangerous but has some adverse effects from too frequent and too large of doses, including high blood pressure, stunted growth (if taken during growing periods), and pretty serious addiction.  The withdrawl that addicts get from caffeine is ridiculous.  The body's quick to build a dependency on that stuff.

The TSA (PG-13 content)

I've only flown by absolute necessity for several years - even drove all the way from Seattle to LA for Anime Expo a few years ago.

When I was moving from NYC to Seattle, we had to fly out the day after the Northeast Blackout. LaGuardia, big as it is, was literally packed with stressed-out people whose flights had been cancelled. And apparently they were stressing out the TSA people too. So to punish us for being in a hurry and for having a carry-on pet, one of them took the time to frisk my hamster for weapons.

No, I'm not kidding.

(I'm lucky she was dazed from the unexpected jostling and chaotic environment. Otherwise, we'd have both ended up in Guantanamo when she bit him for being a stranger who was grabbing her. Rikka was a rescue, and no matter how much love she was shown, had a nasty temper from the abuse at her previous home... only hamster I've ever met that wasn't full of unconditional love.)

Wow. That is just wrong on so many levels. Do you still have Rikka? And Tofu, granted that addictions that are primarily psychological *might* be easier *on the body* to quit (vs., e.g., barbituates, going cold turkey from which rather than tapering off of which can literally kill someone). But, to use the most extreme tragedies of pot use from my own life: My pal is no less dead from his single-car driving while intoxicated accident for it being pot not heroin on which he was wasted. My acquaintance is no less dead from being shot in the head during a gang drug deal gone wrong when I was 14 for it being pot not crack that he dealt. These are among the reasons I support only medical use and decriminalization, not legalization for recreational use. Also my own 7-year common-law marriage was no less destroyed by his addiction being pot than if it had been any other substance. Addictions to substances are needless strategies. Personally if I sip a toast on New Year's that'd be only my 2nd even sip since March.

Omg,  I want an attack hamster! They'd teach my ninja kitten to attack!!

Hahahaha, that sounds more of boredom,  and punishment to the TSA officer.

@Rem: Sadly, Rikka went over the rainbow bridge several years back. Wild hamsters can live for a few years, but after 80 years of inbreeding from the original few hamsters captured in 1930, most in North America now die within a year of cancer, weak immune systems, or cardiomyopathy.

@Chan: If any hamster would have known the secret arts of ninja attack, it would have been Rikka. She was a sneaky little devil, even if she didn't commit assault and bitery on this particular occasion.

But I'd respectfully disagree about the TSA officer being "punished", since it was his choice to frisk her. I do know of a lot of dumb government regulations... but I don't know of any regulations requiring that hamsters should be frisked (and X-rayed) to make sure they're not packing tiny little guns in their cheek pouches. Granted, the fact that they're from Syria does make them obvious terrorist suspects, but I've never heard of a hamster jihad. ;)

Just for you, the sign I keep on my rear-view dashboard (or whatever you call them):
