Fruits Basket live-action movie, with Hollywood improvements.
« on: October 19, 2010, 11:44:30 am »
Just saw this news item at AstroNerdBoy's blog: An American producer has decided that by "adapting" it, he can compress Fruits Basket into two hours.

Yes, seriously.

...

Apologies to anyone who likes the idea, but I think I'm going to be sick.

If Momiji's actor isn't the cutest boy on this planet, I refuse to watch it.

It'll probably be Dakota Fanning.

Street Fighter

Um.. street fighter 1 was good.  The others made are not big budget movies, as far as I know.  Though they were still an interesting watch.

Super mario bros. was awesome.

No idea what KF is.

^

The first Street Fighter movie sucked.  Blanka, sucked.  Balrog being a good guy while Dee Jay was a bad guy, sucked.  Jean Claude Van Damme, sucked.  Ryu & Ken as comic relief, sucked.  Vega being played by a Native American, sucked.  Guile's speech, REALLY sucked.  Dhalsim, in every way possible, sucked.  Fei Long, sucked.  Confusing Guile's buddy Charlie with BLANKA, REALLY REALLY REALLY SUCKED!!!

Super Mario Bros. was fun, if you've never played the games.  I did like the ongoing gag about Koopa ordering a pizza, and the dancing to elevator music stuff.  However, Yoshi was lame, Mario doesn't get the princess, Luigi DOES!, the opening was a joke, and the plot was dull.

King of Fighters is a fighting franchise, just like Street Fighter.  In fact, they've had some cross-over games before.  The movie has yet to come out, last I heard, even though it's been ready for over a year.  I won't go into why I know it's going to be bad, but from what I've read, the plotline will be rather close to the plotline of the games according to the persepectives of Kyo & Iori.

While  haven't watched street fighter or mario in a long while,  mario's plot seemed just fine though really odd unless you don't realize its a freak'n video game, and even then...  Street fighter seemed nothing like what you described.  The transition from video game to reality was vary well done.  Maybe the characters didn't act exactly how they should (though they seemed fine to me, though I'm not a big fan of the games/comic/movies/w.e) blanka was the only odd thing in the movie.

The Mario movie was just bad enough to be bad.  As a whole, the plot was okay; it could have been better.

You seriously saw nothing wrong with ANY of the examples I gave?  You liked having a bad guy and a good guy switching roles (with Dee Jay being a techie, not a dance club manager)?  The only thing about Dhalsim that stayed the same was that he was Indian.  And JEAN CLAUD VAN DAMME!!!  bleck...

I have only one thing to say about video game movie adaptations:

Uwe frickin' Boll.  :P  So on the bright side, this situation could always be worse... much worse.
(A little profanity after the jump, but the horror that is Uwe Boll far exceeds any trauma a four-letter word could cause.)

Not that there's any chance in the lower depths of Gehenna that I would watch Hollywood Furuba, but in fairness, it could be worse.

Okay, so, having never heard of this Uwe Boll person, I wanted to read the link you provided.

You're right, it COULD be a lot worse...
