I'm in my second year and still making costumes.
depends on the number of con's you got to, and which of those you plan new costumes.
I go to 4 to 5 cons a year, but make costumes for only two of them, Kumoricon to Sakuracon is typically 6-8 months later. therefor i plan one more difficult cosplay to work on. (Very slowly)
Scon to Kcon is a short time frame so I make easier cosplays.

(I'm typically making 3 costumes each con. Though some are for other people)

Oh, that's a good plan.

I'm thinking that for college I'll only do Stocking and Mugi alternate outfits since those are my two favorite characters right now and once I have the wigs, they're easy to do.

And last week I sent in my college apps to U of O, SOU, and PSU!
Current Kcon Plans:
-Ringo Oginome
-Anarchy Stocking
-Roxy Richter

hey there!
i'm a former U of O gal, and i didn't have much problems finding time for the wonder that is cosplay (but i lived in an apartment). the dorms definitely rn't big enuf to make them inside one, but i'm sure you will make friends who have apartments that u can make them at! not to sound creepy, but if i still lived in that area, i'd offer the use of my place. i sew too, so i understand where ur coming from when u say u'd rather not purchase a pre-made cosplay, but if that's how it has to go down then so be it :)
hope u enjoy being a duck!
2013 (in the works): Soi Fong (Bleach), Faith (Mirrors Edge), Agito/Akito (Air Gear)
Stay tuned for more information at a later date.

Let's keep this thread going!
Today I get an acceptance letter to SOU, I'm so excited! If I don't get into U of O, this will be my college.
As a bonus, I also got a scholarship for housing, but I think that might be a random thing?

Next year I'm going to go to PCC and I'm pretty much going to stop cosplaying, or at least severely limit it.

Yeah, I think I've mentioned in this thread that I'm going to only do one or two costumes a year and mostly focus on re-wearing stuff.
This is all assuming I can still go to cons.

I buy the cheapest stuff I can find for my cosplays. Value Village is a must. Fabrics that are on sale and using JoAnn's coupons are great, too.

I'm a Junior in college, still in the dorms, and I still have a very healthy cosplay hobby. XD I also don't drink/do drugs or buy much else besides anime/manga/video games/cosplay stuff.

It also helps that I have a job to go back to every break and get money from.

I've been in college all of my years of cosplaying technically (since I went to college when I was a senior in HS).

Really it comes down to space and time management. If you're willing to keep your dorm room clean, then yay. The only problem I've run across is that I do all my homework first and then do my cosplay stuff. I also space out my cosplay tasks over a time - start styling wig on monday, and continue throughout the next week or two in between sleeping, class, eating and homework.

The only issue I've faced this year since I'm making my costumes with patterns/sewing machine, is clean space to lay out the fabric. I'm stuck doing that late at night in the living room when no one else is walking through so my fabric isn't in their way.

The only art students that I know of are some of the most die-hard cosplayers I've ever met; I don't think that it'd be harder.  Kori123 is an art student who cosplays a lot; maybe she could help answer your question better than I could.

It depends on your class materials. No book in my art class this quarter, but a good 100$ for supplies x_x

Well, I started cosplaying more in college than I did in high school. The only problem is finding the will to sew/make stuff when you're tired out from school/work. Also money is tighter when you start paying for stuff on your own.

If you're interested in sewing/fashion classes at the UO there are some sewing/costuming classes through the Theater Arts department. And if you're qualified for work study you can work for the costume shop and make costumes for productions through the department. There are also other classes like pattern drafting (which I'm taking next quarter! So excited!).
Line up:
-Kageyama (Haikyuu)
-Cordelia (Fire Emblem Awakening)
-Marauder Ashe (League of Legends)
-??? Who knows what else. Probably a cosplay I can wear my glasses with.

Work study seems like a good way to go.  You get some cash and credits, also more practice and access to an area made for sewing.

Too bad it's super hard to get into. Even people who qualify get stuck on a waitlist for work study positions.

Maybe? XD I mean, where do you go? My school doesn't have a strict fashion program, just theater arts related sewing and costuming classes.

Yeah, where are you going?  Your college may also have an anime club that could have members that could help.  (If it's going to be Clark Community College, you've already got at least one friend from their anime club).

same here! although i havent joined yet. i will though! as soon as i finish my entrance exam... and pay the copay... and finish the fafsa... but its on the list of stuff to do! Im in the same boat as you (the creator of this post. im sorry. im usually pretty good with names but my brain is like being stupid right now). im a senior who is making her own cosplays. ALONG with volunteering a lot.
Kumoricon 2011 cosplays:
Day0: Hunny (Ouran Host Club) COMPLETE
Day1 (possibly late night panels): Ran Mao (Black Butler) 50%
Day2: Kaoru Hitachin (Ouran Host Club) 90%
Ball/Rave: May (pokemon)
Day3: pirate

Not sure if you still need replies/opinions but I thought I'd put my 2 cents in anyways. I'm a college junior and I certainly don't have as much time on my hands for hobbies as I did when I was in high schools, but I still find time to do the things I love. I'm still somewhat of an armature cosplayer, so my costumes have been pretty simple as of yet, but I do other arts and crafts and spend time with friends and do homework and the rest of it. But if you love it, you'll find time for it.
