Hokuto had an interesting story in the manga so far, it was not yet developed in any of the animated series.
(... Ain't that always the case about character depth and details, though? ..)
Now, about plastic model MAC11s for Makina, there were a number of (real gun) models made. Smaller than the MAC-10 which was available in up to .45cal - the 'Big Mac, you could call it - and you could even use it in a 'Big Mac Attack' -
this site shows the development from the early small frames for .380.
Airsoft and many other other toy companies tooled up to replicate that compact design. Example:
When SWD (the manufacturer of the day) moved up to 9mm Luger on the size of frame that round just beat the sheet metal receiver to shreds.
As explained
over there (same site,) the solution was a later designed, long-ass 9MM frame and slide:
In some close-ups in the manga you can almost read "9mm" on the frames and so it's a very strong bet that Makina uses THESE rather than the compact frame type.
Airsoft and similar models that shoot plastic pellets can be had for $75 - $130ea, but there may be some other plastic model kits for much less that don't fire anything.
