Video Game to Live Action Film
« on: February 17, 2011, 12:08:15 pm »
What Video games would you love to see turned into live action films?
Which ones do you hope hollywood NEVER messes with or screws up?
My friends and I have been talking a lot about the new Silent Hill movie that is in preproduction, so now I'm curious!
Got any good ideas?

Assassin's Creed is my number one. I dream of seeing that adapted into a film (something like 'Kingdom of Heaven' would be fantastic). The entire series could be amazing, but I'd prefer the first game.

Honestly, it's kind of hard to say.  It seems like almost every movie that was based off of a video game has been terrible.  The Tomb Raider movies, the Street Fighter movies, the Mortal Kombat movies, Super Mario Bros., King of Fighters (I'm speculating), the Resident Evil movies, Dead or Alive; all fails in my opinion.  I've heard Doom was pretty good, though.  It feels like most of these directors, producers, and script writers know very little about the games and are just doing whatever they want, and their parent companies don't care, because they'll still get money, because fans will still want to see them.

Ones that MIGHT be good to see (especially if I help make them):
"Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?"
"Katamari"
"Tiny Tank"

Ones that should NEVER be violated by Hollywood:
One of my friends said "Devil May Cry"
My fiancee said "Soul Calibur" (If they do, they must have Voldo)
"Madden"
"Sudeki" (unless it's an animated movie, then it might be okay)

Dood. I'd love to see a good Assasin's Creed!
Or fable! (although so much of that game is about the gameplay rather than the story...)
A lot of the games I'd like to see in movie form, really wouldn't work because of that. Which is a shame.

Although, I agree that hollywood butchers most game-movies. I think they did an adequete job with Silent Hill. Although I'm a big Cinematragraphy nerd, and some of the camera, set and costume work in that move was Beautiful...

I mainly didn't like how the adopted mother was still alive and was the one in Silent Hill.  She ran around screaming and didn't do jack.  It should have still been the father, or at the very least they could have had her use a gun or something from time to time.

Yeah, I know that's a major complaint, but I feel like it would become much more of an action movie, instead of a horror movie. You have to be really careful to maintain that balance. But I understand the complaint.

I just really apreciate how otherwise true the director was to the game. Like the iconic camera angle from the game, where you run down the alley fro the first time, is used frame for frame in the movie. When I realized that, I about died.

It wouldn't have been hard; have him shoot at Pyramid Head once, have him get one of those grey children, then never see a gun again.  One scene of success, one scene of failure.  It could have been done, but they didn't even try.  Sad face...

I still want a Metal Gear Solid movie. If done right it could be epic.
I know that there was one that was supposedly in the works, but I haven't heard anything about it in a few years so I'm not sure if it still is in production or not (along with the Robotech movie).

And damn it, I also still want a Twisted Metal movie! Am I the only one who thinks it would be awesome to see a live-action Sweet Tooth/Needles Kane in a movie blowing away a competitor with an exploding ice cream cone? Seeing a live-action Axel would be pretty wicked, too. Oh, and Mr. Slamm!
Twisted Metal would be one of those movies where it'd would be really had to screw up unless you went with crappy graphics. I can't imagine it would have a great story (though it could, wouldn't be that hard to write one), but it would be a movie you see for the awesome special effects and killer explosions.

Though these wouldn't make good movies, I'd love to see a Monster Racers anime series. I'd watch it. :P
And Steambot Chronicles. That would be neat, too.

Hideo Kojima cancelled it a long long time ago. He says he doesn't want to ruin the game's reputation.
Although I've seen an amazing fan made movie. Well it wasn't AMAZING, but EXTREMELY good for fan made.

Here it is.

I was under the impression that they stayed true to the books, but it wouldn't surprise me if they did.

I wouldn't mind seeing an "Evil Zone" movie, but I'm sure most people wouldn't know that it was a video game.

If FFIX is ever TOUCHED by Hollywood, I will officially go homicidal and nuke Hollywood. Ugh. Just... ugh. xD RPGs would never be meant to be movies... unless it was an episodic. You just can't take ALL THAT and squish it down to even three hours. Unless, well, the game was three hours. Which for a standard RPG is rare. And, well... I would be far, far too jealous of whoever played Garnet, in all honesty xDD;;;

One I WOULD like to see done... and done CORRECTLY... is Resident Evil. The current movies carry the name, the virus, and some bastardizations of the characters, but that's about it. Movies that stay true to the original storyline, give us our beloved JILL SANDWICH, etc. Now THAT I would pay to see. xD

Now, if it were done as an episodic... Xenosaga would be amazing Live Action if done correctly, but you'd have to eventually include Pied Piper, the missing games that are turned into database entries in the third game, etc. Xenosaga itself is amazing, and again... if done CORRECTLY, would go above and beyond most Sci-fi series today. Well, in my opinion n.n

On the other hand, the joke trailer from a few years ago made me realize there is no possible way to make a LoZ live action.

Oh I donno. The problem with that was that it was played entirely serious while a real LoZ film would have to have a sense of humor to it, but I think it could be done.

A Monkey Island movie would be cool but it would probably get blasted as a Pirates of the Caribbean parody (you know, despite...coming first by a considerable margin).

And I know they've tried and failed, in both live action and animated, but I still hold that Street Fighter could make an AWESOME movie. The potential is very much there.
