May sound silly but after securing my apartment, we have a hutch and may book shelfs that will make this easy.
I am filling containers with water and going thru out food stuffs and potentaily making any meat into jerky

My hubby and brother are getting weapons together.

I would suggest not going out until it quiets a bit

The problem with that book is that they suggest you use a katana. DO. NOT. USE. A. KATANA. Katanas are crap. Seriously, if you wanna slice and dice use a machete. There's another type of knife that works well. I can't remember what it's called, although I'm pretty sure it's Chinese.

As for transportation: Bicycles. Seriously. Of course, there's problems with this, but out of the options it's probably the best unless you get a flat- Then you're screwed. But they don't run off of a scarce resource and they're relatively lightweight.

Food. Make sure you know your local plants and what's edible and what isn't. MREs are a good idea, as is space food (although space food is expensive).

Also, buy a pack. You won't regret it.

There's a forum somewhere on the internet that is devoted to this topic. It's pretty epic. Too bad I can't remember the name of it. =\

If zombies movies have taught us anything, it's that we should all be jogging like EVERY DAY to prepare.

I just watched Zombieland today.  :D

Rule number 1: CARDIO.

Jogging every day is good for you, though, anyway.

two best places to be when it first starts:
walmart or prison.

guns, crow bars, and the like are a must. the pack is VERY NECESSARY.

Suicide.
I'm not just saying this because I can't imagine trying to cope with the horror of watching everything I love either die, become zombified or disappear due to the lack of infrastructure. I'm saying this because I don't think I could cope with the stresses of trying to build a human society from a bunch of PTSD-addled survivors, assuming the threat is ever neutralized/contained.

So far pros for outliving the zombie apocalypse are:
All the lazies are gone

Cons:
Everyone has PTSD
No toilet paper
No widely-available electricity
(or sewage)
(or running water)
(or fuel)
No nuclear containment
No guarantee of anyone with the engineering background needed to rebuild is still around
Everyone you know probably died
Crop devastation=food shortages
Most survivors probably fringe survival nuts/separatist groups
Who let's not forget are often hella prejudiced against at least one class of people
Let's not pretend like we'll be getting over the devastation of everything we've ever loved anytime soon.

Have I thought about this too much? Yes.
Blame the twice-weekly World War Z discussions I sat through during my senior year of high school.

Walmart is a horrible place to be. It would be overcrowded and there's glass and windows doors. A prison is actually a good place to be, surprisingly- Provided you're not in the prison because you've been sentenced.

From what I hear, Walmart would be a great place to load up on guns, ammo, chainsaws, and other fun stuff... but it would be dangerous, because it's so hard to tell the difference between the shoppers and the zombies.

Maybe it would be a good place to be when it first starts, but get out of there as soon as you're loaded up.
