Actually, you might be surprised at the number of closeted haters. Even though there's
nothing wrong with someone for how they were born, there are a lot of people who grow up hearing that gay=evil from their friends, family, church, etc. If they grow up believing that there's something wrong with them for being themselves, they may grow to hate themself so much that they lash out at others. Or they may be in constant fear of being discovered, in which case they lash out at others to try to hide their secret. It's one of the more sad consequences of a society in which it's okay to hate someone for how they were born.
(And then there's the awkward moment when someone takes an awkward moment and beats it into the ground instead of letting it go.)
